Your thoughts on the Ventess Tux... - Page 4

I am glad that we have settled the question to everyone's dissatisfaction.

Let's go on to the next one: fly on semi-formal trousers...what's more proper, button or zipper?*

* Or should it be fly-less?

If I stick to playing Devil's Advocate as in my last post, I believe Mephistopheles demands a whole host of flies.

I would like to see some evidence of members scrutinizing early etchings of semi-formal trou for evidence that they had a fly or not, then to report back in this thread.

I would also like to see evidence of members researching the phrase, "hold his liquor," and relating that to whether semi-formal trousers should even have a fly.

We'll regroup in a few days and debate passionately.

No fly is fine as long as one doesn't pull a Bobby Brown "My Perogative" dance move.

I prefer fly-less with elastine and lycra elements at the seams and integrated pocket gussets- a sort of lazymans pant.

Properly speaking semi-formal trousers should include a flap like a union suit.

Pardon me, but one is still waiting for a ruling on proper universal hats that might be worn in summer with black tie rig.

What is the universal standard?

Is it truly a boater with black grossgrain ribbon?

FYI: a button fly has the virtue of expediency when proper technique is matched with the promise of a moment of passion. Taking in the esthetics of sound, when undone, the button fly is much less vulgar than one constructed with a zipper when it is unfastened. And both attributes would certainly fit within my definition of "more proper" especially for use in the company of a paramour.

What about a VELCRO fly?

The loud, ripping sound that it makes when it is undone is spectacular.
