This is the same thing everyone with a blackberry said about the iPhone's lack of buttons.  Notice how nobody says anything now?  And a phone is much tinier than a tablet.

Pre-ordered one today. Website took FOOOORRRREEEEEEVVVVVVERRRR but eventually got it done.

Ordered a black 32GB, 4G model with a black leather cover, wireless keyboard, and a digital AV adapter. Accessories shipped today. Tablet supposed to arrive on the 16th.

This is my first tablet. Thought about buying the 2 but held out for this release.

(Wow...my next post will be 10,000)

I would argue though that typing with your thumbs on a small cell phone is different than typing with all ten fingers on a keyboard.

You know, you're probably right.  Keyboard is necessary (for you).

Try out the split keyboard, too. It's pretty intuitive and makes thumb typing super easy

I am debating on ordering one... Never had a tablet, currently sports an iPhone 4 (love it). But I always got the feeling that this is an oversize iPhone... Not a laptop replaced. But I may just pre-order one, if there's a good chance it will sell out. Then sell it on eBay. If they don't sell out and I don't like it, both my parents said they would purchase it at the original price...

EDIT: Can textbooks be purchased on this and if so is it cheaper?

It doesn't replace a laptop.  It created its own niche in between a laptop and a phone,

I have the original iPad and it's amazing. (64 GB model, wifi.) If you travel on planes, trains, etc, it's the perfect TV and movie watching device. Especially when you factor in the battery life. 10 hours no problem on one charge. I also love reading GQ and Esquire on it and online articles before bed. And it's always by my side for commercials during baseball games.

Anyways, I'm probably getting the latest model. If anyone is interested in my iPad just PM me. I bought it new from a local retail store and have the original box and materials it came with. Along with a stunning leather case.

Placed an order on a iPad 64GB WiFi only, with black leather case.... $821.76, yikes! Cost as much as an laptop, not going to lie they have peeked my interest but never played with one long enough. Meanwhile, my Toshiba laptop is on it's last leg... Trying to wait for the new MBA to come out, so I can order the current MBA 11 at a discount.

Probably not till this summer or fall. I sold my 13" MBP to get the 11" MBA last summer. I'm so much happier with it.

I still have yet to get my confirmation e-mail... As far as the MBA. I am giving to May 1 or current laptop taking a crap, then I will order... The current MBA has more then enough power with the Core i7 then I will need.

Total: $909.50

I opted to pick up everything at my local apple store. The only reason I chose to do so is so I can hear my car's exhaust in the underground parking garage of the mall that the apple store is located in shog[1].gif

As I understand jailbreaking iOS devices, it can make it easier to use non-Apple software to get music and movies on and off the devices, e.g. using RhythmBox on Linux with an iPad or iPhone. Also jailbreaking allows alternative sources of apps as well, like Cydia.

I suppose people don't really do heavy text entry and document editing jobs on a phone. On the other hand with the iPad and iWork, along with other office productivity suites

I actually find it very hard to touch type on a non-tactile virtual glass keyboard without looking. Got to have a real physical keyboard I can feel, i.e. I learned to type without looking at my fingers, so I can concentrate on what I'm typing.
