Finding a discounted iPod?

Some asshat stole my iPod, so I need a replacement.

Anyone know where I can find a current gen iPod (I believe it's called 5.5) under retail price? I think I can knock off 20 or 30 USD if I buy from the store on campus but wanted to pursue cheaper options if possible. Since my old one was a 3rd gen, it will be nice to have the new one, though I'll be getting the 30gb which is smaller than my old 40. Not sure I'll miss that 10gb, as I listen to about 70% or so of what's on the hard drive.

They also stole my 4-year-old cell phone charger, but they didn't steal my $1300 Digital SLR. Guess they were in a hurry.

No idea if these are current model or not, but Apple has a selection of refurbished iPods that might be a good deal.

Why not get a Sweet Cowon player? Im sure people would be less likely to steal something they know nothing about (ie its less desirable, to steal, than an iPod but the sound quality and inclusion of EQ = much much better)

I managed to score a mini last year for $100 off craigslist, bought it off some 18 year old azn thug. I'm sure it was probably stolen but I've gotten so much crap stolen at this point that I don't even care. It will be tough to find one. I lost about 10 auctions on ebay so I gave up and went to CL and somehow got it. He said he had tons of emails about it but I guess I was first. Oh yeah, and it was pink.... For walking around, I actually rather like the shuffle, you can make it stylish and it is affordable. For my car stereo I use my mini. I'd go for a refurbished cuz that shit will break on you eventually anyways. The batteries are supposed to suck.

I'm only interested in an iPod.

I decided I'm just going to pay full retail at the student store today. The refurbs are 5th gen, and I would rather have the 5.5, which has a brighter display and longer battery life.

But on an iPod itself, I'd think that you could try looking for discounts online - Buy.com often has lower prices and there are often coupons floating around.

I went the ebay route and got scammed (good feedback, bad seller, got my money back from paypal). My advice to you is go the Apple refurbished/discontinued route. Great deals but MAKE SURE YOU BUY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. It's another $30-40 but WELL WORTH IT in case something goes wrong. My ipod's going great 3 years later for the record.
