That's understandable. But I think it's also understandable for a business to refuse. Money can't, and shouldn't, buy everything imo.

Well, you can see how that other one has some wrinkling just right of pockets. That looks like the beginnings of what has happened with yours. It may be normal for horsehide. I don't know. To me it looked like what happens when cow leather is thin, but I don't know what horsehide should look like. The only time I've handled it has been with new Schott jackets, and there the leather looked the same as cowhide to me. Maybe a little shinier. Maybe DWF could give a more educated opinion.

Same for my Glaser bag. I think he'd put the logo inside. They're very proud of their product, hence wanting the logo on it.

I just ordered a M&W Traveler Laptop Briefcase in brown horsehide. My initial thought was to get a Saddleback, but after I found the post Srivats made about the M&W Traveler and saw the pictures, I was sold. Looking forward to receiving the bag!

I am actually thinking of ordering a 2nd Glaser. I have the large transaction bag because I wanted something that I could travel with and take a laptop along with a large file or two. For that purpose it is great, but I'd like a smaller one for times when I don't need so large a bag (meetings, etc.). Thinking of ordering this one:

Ahh, perhaps that's the difference. I've always heard that creasing is a bad thing in leather, but I'm no expert on hides. FWIW, my Mulholland bag after 2yrs (could use a little conditioner itself): Also, though I'm not crazy about their look, JW Hulme is made in the US. And I agree with others about Glaser. Their stuff is great, and the family is incredibly nice. However, the logo is a bit obnoxious for a serious and relatively pricey bag.

Filson 252 field satchel?

Just received my M&W Traveler Laptop Briefcase in brown Horween horsehide. I am very pleased with the bag, and the quality of the construction.

Although there is one thing that irks me a little.. I've have attached a picture showing how the straps that goes around the whole bag is attached. All the way around the strap is made of dual layer thick leather. However, the strap is only connected to the bag through the male part of the pull snap, and it seems the leather has been shaved very thin. I fear the leather has been shaved too thin, and it impacts the strength of the strap.

What do you guys think?

It has a lifetime warranty so it should be good. And if it doesn't hold, you send it back.

Yeah, that is true. But there is no guarantee the company will be in business that long. As far as I know, it is a pretty small company.

Yes that's the risk you take with any small company. Generally their prices will be lower, but the long term support is always a question. This is the case with Naragansett and with Saddleback, who claims to have a 100 year warranty.

I went with this case yesterday from McKinley Leathers, and it should be shipping out in about two weeks. I asked the owner to change out the quick release brass buckles to simple buckles without a quick release, so that I'm needing to use the ol' fashioned way to open/close (just a personal preference). I've also asked if he can use a stitching that more closely matches the color of the leather:

These are all made in Ohio, with English Bridle Leather (same leather type used in the Filson Leather Field Satchel fwiw)
