I remember this poll result, too. For an interview or any formal business occasion, I'd wear black shoes.

I'm not in the camp that black shoes are 100% end of discussion necessary for an interview, but I am firmly a believer that whatever shoe you choose must be shined. When I see candidates come through my office with beat up looking shoes or baggy pants then they start with a strike in my mind. Not the end of the world mind you, but if it comes down to a tie between candidates I'm going to choose the one who presents themselves properly. I work in a client-facing role and one can't look like a slob.

Personally I've always worn dark brown shoes with a navy suit and wouldn't change that for an interview. I don't think you can go wrong with that or black. Good luck.

I personally do not like the look of black shoes with a navy suit, so I usually go to interviews in a charcoal suit.

I think it is personal preference when deciding between black or dark brown; both colors are fine. As this is your first suit, I would recommend a more conservative style of shoe (i.e., cap toe) and you can wander down the wingtip road soon after.

Personally I would go black first then take the brown plunge since most people walking down the street would probably consider black more professional looking. You may find browns and burgundies outnumbering your blacks soon enough once you start developing your appreciation for shoes.

Your jacket don't fit you. You have sloped shoulders . your shoulders are dragging down the armholes on that picture. You need to get a better fitted jacket with possibly lightly padded shoulders. Also the 1st picture the wave around your shoulder looks funny. The jacket way too short. Sorry looks to me you have stolen your younger brothers jacket !
Look at this post similar situation with yours-

Thank you for saying what I was too afraid to say: looks shitty.

Make sure your brown shoes are well polished or the combination with a navy suit fails. As stated above, for an interview or other similar business setting, black cap toes or punch caps are a must.

If the brown is dark, it is probably fine. Burgundy is better. Black is the safest choice. Don't do anything close to walnut.

Are these shoes ok for interviews? Dark enough?

(additional 25% + $10 off on top of sale so it's pretty cheap)

I know they're pretty crappy but this is only my first pair. I don't intend on wearing them everyday, only to interviews so they hopefully won't wear out too quickly. Once I do get a job, then I'll invest in some AE's everybody is talking about. If this color still doesn't work, then I'll be happy to stick with black!

Dark brown shoes and navy suit are fine for an interview. If that's what you have, wear them with confidence and spend your time worrying about the interview itself and not your shoes.

Looks good bro. Good luck with the interview! Make sure everything fits well (get your suit tailored) and you're well on your way to success. smile.gif

The proper shoe for a suit is an oxford (a/k/a balmoral), those are bluchers. Oxfords have closed lacing, while bluchers are open laced. Look at a Park Ave for comparison. I would suggest the Balmoral/oxford for your first pair.

I also think the oxfords just look better, but reality is most people will not notice. I see people in suit with loafers al the time.

Agree. Way too tight and same with the shoulders.

But keep in mind the guy looks young and that's the "style". Slim lapels, 4" wide leg openings and shoulders that are 3" too tight.

Us older guys are just different?

The suit's too tight for my liking, and but I'd rather go with burgundy shoes than brown.

Fair enough, but I'm only just about to turn 20, and I think that style of suiting looks shit. However, the only super bad thing about Chiggah's suit is those hideous shoulders. Otherwise, it's shit, but not that shit, meaning, it's good for Topman.
