All,
I am getting married in Asheville, NC in June at 530pm. The wedding is outside and going to be fairly laid back but my fiance is wearing a very elegant dress in champagne. Her bridesmaids will be in lavender and the floral work will be white and green with twigs and moss etc. I hate the idea of wasting my money and the money of my groomsmen on ill-fitting rental tuxes. For that reason and my general idea for what I want the wedding to look like, I am looking for a poplin, cotton or linen suit that will look good and that my groomsmen, like all the bridesmaids out there, can totally wear again. My hope is to keep the suit around $250-300. My suits of choice are Samuelsohn, HSM, and Jack Victor, which clearly aren't options at this price point. Could anyone suggest some lines that I will not feel like I am wearing a leisure suit in? I am leaning toward a navy suit as a slight variation from the tan/oyster poplin or cotton suit. One wrinkle in my effort is that one of my groomsmen is a 56XL coat size. If i cant find the right look for the right price, I am leaning towards one of the light/ pearl gray tux's available thru JAB or MW. Know I am patently opposed to MW and JAB but i am in a pickle that keeps them as possible options. I have heard Haspel is an option as is Hardwick. I am also looking at Indochino. I am guessing there is a thread in existence that i didnt come across so feel free to forward me to it.
Thanks so much,
WRW

Do not feel obligated to wear the same quality of garments as your groomsmen.

Have you considered retailers who offer separates such as J Crew, B Republic, etc. etc.? At that price point you are not going to find much. But perhaps for a few bucks more your groomsmen might end up with something that they can wear again. I'd avoid rental tuxes at any cost.........5:30 is too early and outside at that.......no tux.......period. I'd rather see them in navy sport coats and khakis than a rental tux. IMO.

I have no advice for the 56XL It almost seems as if you should start by locating who can fit him and then work backwards. Whatever you do you don't want to make him feel like the 'odd man out'.

You don't need to be all matchy - it is your wedding so make it extra special for you.

Thanks for the feedback. I am leaning towards my suit being different from the groomsmen so that I can go with one of my preferred brands and higher quality. If I do that, it would seem that I would need to be a totally different color than them. Right? Could I go navy and them tan? or should they be navy and i go with a natural or tan? My fiance is in champagne so I don't want to clash with her.

I think you should do Navy and they should do tan.

You will look more formal, groom like, and appropriate next to your bride's champagne gown in the photos. Personally I'd look for a sleek sharkskin in a blue just a little brighter than darkest navy. Something that will look well in strong light. As 5:30 pm in June is pretty darned bright. And you might as well look for a seriously summer weight fabric while you are at it. It won't be the most durable suit you ever buy - but who wants to sweat at their wedding?

If the groomsmen's tan isn't just perfect against her champagne gown it won't matter - but your suit will matter a lot.
