I love SF... foodie spot #2 in the US..

I like Barretta, Mission Chinese, Foreign Cinema, Brenda's (brunch), Bi Rite or Humprehy Slocombe (ice cream), Blue bottle coffee, Wayfare Tavern, and Comstock saloon for cocktails.

On the to do list is Benu, Commonwealth, Slanted Door, Bouchon Bakery, and French Laundry!

If you've never been to Alcatraz I'd defintely go there. What kind of food do you guys enjoy?

if your schedule allows a trip to the coast around big sur, i highly recommend it. the combination of steep ocean cliffs, waves crashing onto giant rocks, and giant redwoods is pretty amazing.

Make a reservation at Wilson & Wilson for cocktails. Third best cocktail bar in the U.S., which is like massive incredible amazing praise from me.

 

Also, the Alcatraz tour is actually really good. Getting up early in the morning to see the sea lions at that pier that is so touristy was also fun, since I had never seen sea mammals of that mass outside of a zoo before.

I don't mean to be a jerk, but Hopkins if you take any of the first set of suggestions you will probably want to blind yourself with chopsticks. They are mostly hipster places with smug attitudes and bullshit food.

It's a coffee shop specializing in drip coffee and waiting in line. Knock yourself out.

Comstock is OK. On that list it is the most tolerable, though the crowd has gone downhill each time I have been there.

Make sure to stay at the Hotel H. or it's new sister place a couple of blocks farther from the square area. Save some time for walking around the town and doing the many rooms there. Some are quite good, some are okay and a few are outright plonk.

If you have a car or get a driver service some ones I would consider are:

We plan to get back there...not this year, maybe next. Cyrus, Charcuterie, that burger joint Keane owns down the way....there's a country store by the tasting rooms pictures above where you can get really nice cheese and charcut lunch boxes and there's a store right in town too. IMO, it's a great place. Seriously thinking of spending a year or two of my retirement in a rental there and just work in the pouring rooms for spending money.

I think those pics are from Dry Creek Road. Head north out of town and it is impossible to miss. It reallu is farm country once you get outside of healdsburg proper. You could get directions as "go three vineyards north and turn left" from people in town.
