New on the forum looking for some advise... My 1st post

I have been lingering around here for the past couple of weeks. I happened to stumble across this site, in a google search, and i have been addicted since. I am a 30 year old mortgage banker, looking to start rebuilding my wardrobe from the ground up. I have a good sense of street clothes style, but dress clothes, not as much...

I happened to take a look into my closet recently and noticed that all of my suits are 3 button. They are cheap suits i have picked up over the years at places like syms & outlet stores. I really didnt know better at the time, and got sold by the salesman that they were good quality suits and they look good on me. That being said, i would like to put them all to the side and start over...

I am 5"10, 180 lbs with a solid athletic build, and i noticed that shirts off the rack dont really fit me very well. My favorite brand OTR for shirts and suits happens to be Hugo Boss, which i noticed gets knocked alot on this site, due to the fact the jackets are fused.

I am on somewhat of a budget in rebuilding my wardrobe, but would like my money well spent. Prior to finding this forum i happend to find 2 Hugo suits at a department store which were very high style and fit pretty well OTR. They are the Jam Sharp suits hugo makes.

They have a good amount of waste suppression and and have a very modern cut to them. I also picked up a couple of Hickey Freeman suits on Gilt.com, the hickey line... Same type of style, but according to this forum, they are much better made than the Hugo suits (which are black label) due to the fact they are half canvassed. Correct?

Anyway, i have taken these suits to a fantastic tailor i have here on Long Island, and he understands the look im going for. The suits cost me about $220 a piece for all the adjustments. This wasnt the greatest idea was it? I am kind of kicking myself for doing this, because im thinking i made the wrong decision. I purchased the Hugo suits for 895 each and the Hickey suits for 500 each. All in all i have 4 suits which i pick up next week, which should look fantastic, but was curious to know everyones thoughts on this, so i dont repeat mistakes in the future.

My budget was around 1000 per suit, give or take a few bucks here and there. Now i read alot about Mr Neds and going to see him about making me a suit, but i also read he makes very American style suits, and me being on Long Island, having to drive to the city a few times for a suit, almost seemed like more aggravation than it was worth? The pants OTR fit me just about perfect and just needed to be hemmed.

After reading about shirts on this site, i took measurements off of my favorite, perfect fitting Hugo shirt, and ordered some shirts from modern tailor and Nialma... Next i need shoes, ties, belts, ect... I am looking forward to hearing your input on things done right (if any) and things done wrong... I really like the modern style suit such as Tom Ford, Armani, Gucci, Hugo, ect... Thank you very much

Thanks everyone. Anyway, is suit supply a retailer or they make their own stuff? Is there a certain fit or line i would be going for? I hear you on the Hugo suits. I spent about 900 on them plus paid a tailor 200 to make it perfect. Lesson learned and i will be sure that will be my last Hugo suit... I also purchased a David Reeves custom made suit online, and im meeting with him next week. Can anyone suggest a good place to pick up some shoes and belts without breaking the bank? I actually just called my tailor and he didn't get to the Hugo Boss suits yet. They are chalked up, but he didnt do anything to them yet. He only has the 2 Hickey Freeman Suits which i bought off of gilt.com for $500 bucks. These are the hickey line... My tailor told me they are not half canvassed, but anything i read on this forum said that they are. Your thoughts?

Im thinking about picking the Hugo suits up from him and bringing them back, and buying the suits you recommended from Suit Supply instead. On a 2k budget i can get just about twice the amount of suits, give or take a couple of bucks. Good idea?

well, like i said... I like the Hugo suits but i know they are bashed on this forum alot for being fused and not really well made. So if i have the chance to return 2 hugo suits which i paid just about a grand for, plus 200 for alterations, your certainly making me think twice about my decision (which honestly was an impulsive one)...

900 for a hugo suit plus 200 for alterations x 2 were at 2 grand... I can get 4 suits at Suit Supply which will be half canvassed and just as good if not better quality... Seems like the better decision.

Wouldnt you agree?
