It was part of his "to-do" list. It's really not that much to fly to Cuba. When I went back in '05, it was something like $350 r/t (oh the irony of flying business to Cuba.) He was finding prices closer to $4-500 from Jamaica. So really, it costs about the same as it would to fly to just about any country in CA from the US.
I told him that I didn't regret seeing Cuba but in the same breath I'm not sure I'd recommend it to anyone unless they NEEDED to say they had been during Castro's time. After a few days in Havana, it goes from "novel" to "depressing," at least for me. Outside the capital, there are still some pretty towns and country but it's still a pain in the ass, especially as an American. Judging from the email I got from him today, he's figuring that out quickly.
