Tie selection help!

So I have a wedding to attend in a month or so, somewhat of a nontraditional wedding.

I was requested to wear a solid maroon shirt. I have 2 suits, 1 gray and 1 charcoal. Just got myself a pair of shoes, think light to mid-tan.

My question was, what kind of a tie should I be looking for? And would the shoes look odd with the shirt? Something about maroon, I just don't like it...

+1.

Ditch the tan shoes. That and the maroon will look even more awful.

Wear a silk maroon pocket square and a silver tie. That will look good. nest.gif

Seriously though, maroon is a terrible color for a dress shirt. Wearing charcoal will make for a very dark look, but the shirt might overshadow a mid-grey suit. If forced to choose, I'd go mid-grey. Like JRD said, tan shoes are a no go. Get some dark brown oxford shoes, that might tie in to the maroon. As for tie, hopefully somebody can help you out. Doesn't seem terribly promising to me though.

Appreciate the help guys. I'll start looking for a better match of shoes, and will probably end up going with the grey then.

Any other suggestions are much appreciated

I presume you mean light grey and charcoal grey?

I should have clarified. Charcoal grey and a mid grey. Not light but not too dark either.

Charcoal grey and a mid grey yes. Not light but not too dark either.

I would go with the mid gray suit and a black or charcoal tie, with dots or some texture. And black shoes.

You can make it look good, just play to the shirt like you would a loud tie by subduing the other elements somewhat.

Though I hope to never be forced to wear a maroon dress shirt, I'd probably opt for a black knit tie.

I have no idea; but I wish you luck.

I have one I wear causally all the time. Adding a tie is not something I would normally be inclined to do, nor would I reach for it with a suit. But it's a great color with a pair of jeans, say.

This can work.

maroon shirt is tacky in my opinion, stay with neutrals
