The Day Bed / Chaise Longue Thread

I'm getting a new flat. The building is regency/georgian and I have a couple of pieces of that era as a nod to the building, but I'm mostly into modernist stuff. I want to have a day bed in the living room. I want it placed roughly in the middle of the room (rather than against a wall), so that people can sit on either side of it. Now, minimal designs look better to me, but aren't very comfortable. For instance:

255
200
300

On the other hand, designs with a backrest have the problem of not looking great in the middle of a room and only allowing one direction of seating:
166

So I reckon that I need to go for this kind of concept:
197
350
262
But I can't find a satisfactory version of that design. Suggestions? Please post ideas, pictures, references, etc. Thanks in advance.

I'm just thrilled you didn't write chaise lounge.

Without a solid back they are very difficult to sit upon for much longer than a few minutes, so I would go with a backrest. Don't be afraid to stick a backed chaise in the middle of the room.

I like the Artifort chaise which invites you to walk around it.

Thanks, Lefty. The Artifort (pictured above in beige) is pretty, but somehow I can't shake the feeling that it's a bit gimmicky. I'm more and more drawn towards the last picture above, which is an old Habitat design. But I'm convinced that I haven't seen enough designs yet.

I don't know. I think it's a classic and you don't see many in people's houses. What I really like about it is that it takes on the personality of the room it's in. Or maybe it just looks cool.

Recovering a regency piece in a bolder fabric could also work.

True to SF ways, I think I'll get one custom made.

I don't know what your budget is but I rather like this:

Deco? Quite interesting, but I suppose I'm drawn to more angular shapes.
