Is walnut shoes and black pants considered a faux pas?

I saw this on the allen edmonds site and was confused if the rules have been flexible:

It won't go over well here, but go ahead and experiment. Try it on weekends only.

I'mnot really going to wear that even on weekends I'm afraid.

I like it a lot [edit: with dark trousers, didn't realize they were black .. doh!]. Certainly not conservative, but if it fits your style and the occasion - why not. Edit2: I've seen this combination worn in Italy with style, and it can work. Definitely better than dark brown shoes worn with black pants ...

I think the photo looks good but it looks like they are dark gray or charcoal pants, not straight black. I wouldn't wear anything but black shoes with straight black pants.

We have to assume those pants are charcoal. In which case, it could look quite dashing.

Getting black and brown to work together is difficult, but not impossible. I have never seen it done with footwear and pants before.
