pants with flat pleats, cuffs or not?

I like the look of a flat front alot... however my uper thighs and butt are more developed (I used to be an oarsmen and sculler). Despite my efforts that's just not going to go away anytime soon.

Now while standing a flat front normally fits quite nicely, it becomes a problem when I sit down (the crotch rises and the upper leg part becomes very thight on my legs and crotch).

Having pleats helps a lot (dare i say it eliminates everything). But it just doesn't look that clean as I want it to. My tailer actually suggested a flat pleat (closed pleat) instead and this seems to be the perfect solution. It looks very clean and it feels much roomier (although not as roomy as a open pleat but i don't mind that.

now first of all, this is not really a style I have seen being used and I wonder, is it considered a flat front or a pleated pant. If it is seen as a pleated pant, would cuffs be appropriate?

ofcourse if there is any way to have a comfortable flat front measured up I would love to hear how you would do that... right now it's just not working for me when i have to sit down.

I've never heard of closed pleats ... maybe he is referring to reverse pleats?

I like the look of pleated pants with cuffs. In fact I recently ordered two pants for a new suit... one with a flat front and one with a single pleat + cuffs.

nope it's really a flat pleat. Meaning that the fabric is folded (like a pleat) and the end is sewn. The whole fabric looks flat and you almost don't see the pleat

it looks similar to the top of the fabric in this picture (i.e. the sewn part):

I prefer the flat pleats as well.

I'm not sure I understand what this 'closed pleat' is. From your description it sounds like it's not a pleat at all, but just a dart. Trousers with a darted front are not at all uncommon and should just be treated the same as flat-fronts.

Sounds like he is referring to an inverted box pleat. However any pleat (when the pant fits properly) should stay closed when standing.
