I bought general admission. COTA's decision to restrict the main straight seats to PSL holders was a super dick move. The people willing to spend that kind of dosh—speculatively I might add—aren't going to be the foundation of an ongoing audience for the sport in the U.S.

I had great seats at Indy across from the pits for the USGP (one year courtesy of Al Qaeda and the depressed demand which forced the scalpers to charge below face value just to dump tickets and another year courtesy of an in-law who bought into Indy's ticketing scheme), and I'd say those were worth the money. I wouldn't have paid for seats anywhere else on the circuit, though.

Ha ha, Damon Hill.

I was at the French GP in '93 and managed to sneak into the paddock for about 2 hours. I saw Damon walking to the trailers out back and screamed his name, he turned and waved, he was still with Williams then. Did the same thing to Senna but he didnt bite.

Didnt realize the race in TX is in Nov. Fuck, I may just be able to go. Cant believe its so sold out. I hope it doesnt turn into a nascar event.

Hm, if I go it sounds like we may have to arrange a SF meetup...

Sugarbutch, I'm jealous of your photos. I nearly had a chance at VIP access to the 2009 race in Abu Dhabi cause my friend knew one of the Brawn/Mercedes mechanics.

I was there after 9/11

I was surprised at the crowd, close to 190k, the largest F1 crowd that year, bigger than Canada

it was very moving during the anthem

 

The 2001 event's success (185,000 fans were reported in attendance) was even more important with the race, then originally held in September, being the largest international sporting event held in the United States after September 11, 2001 terrorist attack.

It was pretty awesome. I don't think I'll get similar access again, but I was very fortunate to go to Silverstone in 1997 and 2008. In 1997, we got a private tour of the Williams factory on the Friday. This was, by far, the highlight:

Nice view! That's gotta be one of the best places in F1. You get the crazy braking, passing, and then the ridiculous acceleration.
