Help choosing a new sport coat for ~$200 - Page 2

The herringbones will be most versatile. The Tarasnay in nice but perhaps a bit dark for your only jacket. Then again, get it now and add another, lighter brown later.

The other thing to think about is that a wool tweed is not really a spring/summer jacket anyway, so you really are getting a fall/winter jacket anyway. For summer lighter wools and linens are more common. Cottons and silk blends too.

The lightweight brown Donegal might work, but it might be too warm for summer, even as light as it is. Where do you live?

Thanks! I was actually looking at that and debating it, so with your information in hand I will gladly avoid them. 

 

The problem I have with buying secondhand is that I'm a very gangly fellow, who would probably fit a 40 extra long (which tweed-jacket.com has) better than a 40 long. I haven't really found any 40 double longs, let alone a secondhand version of them. 

 

And your post about the versatility of browns is making me really want to splurge a bit and shell out about $500 for one of those customizable ones from tweed-jacket.com.

Currently I'm living in the Northern Virginia/DC area. But I plan on going to grad school, and I would lik to do that in a more northern climate. 

 

As an aside, I'm a somewhat taller, skinny guy, and I've read that the subtle windowpane of the galloway and other ones lends a bit of "substance" to my form. Crazy? Or credible?

I am adding lots more Harris Tweeds this week, unsure of sizes until I do do but do check as I add a lot of extra long fits : )

Rugby Ralph Lauren has a great sale right now. Missed out on the better stuff, but still some great things left.

The one from leadenhall doesn't have an extra long option though, so I'd be relying on the tailor to take out the arms. What are your guys' opinion on the cloths from http://www.tweed-jacket.com/CLOTH%20PAGE/CLOTH%20GALLERY/index.htm that I linked? Specifically the Galloway, Gladstone, Magnus, and Tarasnay tweeds?
