How to put on/take off monk strap shoes?

I've never worn monk straps before and was wondering, when putting them on and taking them off, if one would need to unbuckle the strap each time?

if you can slip them off without unbuckling, then they're too big.

I think there are threads here where people indicated that they would not unbuckle, but that may have been with dub monks. We're missing the old SF style where similar threads were displayed at the bottom of the page, I guess.

Many single Monks have an elastic attached to the buckle which can allow the shoe to work as a loafer.
With double Monks, at least to my experience, one buckle is usually undone to permit the foot to enter the shoe. Functional buckles usually mean they are actually used.

That's how mine are set up. On with shoehorn, slide off, but more snug and secure than your typical loafer.

I never had a monks that is elastic

But yes you have to unbuckle to take them off, though after i take off mine I just slide it back into the buckle without setting the pin.

Got my first pair of monk straps (the double variety). Anyone else here have uneven feet and buckle their straps differently between their left and right foot? Additionally, how tight do you guys prefer to buckle your straps? I usually like a nice snug fit when I lace up, but double monk straps feel more fragile that their lace up brethren, especially since their is no metal ring reinforcement behind the eyelets like my other shoes.

Most people have one foot that is slightly larger than the other

Mine are not too snug, in part because of a high instep. I agree that doubles seem more fragile.

Congratulations on your purchase. It is customary on SF to share the joy and post photos of acquisitions and we encourage it.
I find my own feet to be symmetrical enough that my monks (left & right) are tightened on the same eyelet. Everyone will have their own preferences ofcourse.
Over-tightening is what causes stress on the eyelets. Maintain your leather with periodic applications of leather conditioner to maintain maximum elasticity and leather strength and it is unlikely to have any problem with the straps breaking. Once every 2 months should be sufficient and apply the leather lotion sparingly.

My C&J Saviles are definately not too large (my right foot seems 0.25 of a size larger than my left foot) and I can pop out of them without unbuckling. The strap is elasticated. I do open them when going into them though.
