Getting my DJ custom made.

Hello, you bunch of sartorially-minded freaks, you,

I'm gettin' pretty sick of trying to find this white DJ, but I can't thrown in the towel. It's too darn puuuurty. So, I decided to just have it made for me. I'm a custom-made virgin, as it were, and I have no idea where to have one made.

I'm definitely not going Indochino, and I didn't like the general cuts on Astor and Black's website. Those are the only two I'm aware of. Who else can I have make me this sort of jacket? Also, what sort of budget should I expect to avoid sticker-shock? I was hoping to keep this around 1.5 - 2k.

Essentially, all I want is a reputable tailor who does good work. All I'm asking for. Preferably one near DC, but anywhere on the East coast would be fine.

You've probably heard already of Field, a bespoke tailor often mentioned in connection with DC. He charges around $3k or upwards for a suit, so it's possible that a dinner jacket would fall not too far from your budget.

I'd guess Mr. Field will charge around $2500. That's the price he quoted a friend of mine for a smoking jacket. But he is the best in the area.

Depending on how long you're willing to wait, you could make an appointment with WW Chan - they are coming through again in March.

I looked that up, actually. How do their tours work, exactly? Surely they won't be in town long enough for me to really have a "bespoke" experience, or whatever that is.

I question the wisdom of getting a novelty dinner jacket as your first custom made piece of clothing, especially at the prices mentioned in this thread. There are plenty of made to measure shops that can create this for you (if you don't get this bug out of your system) at a lower price. Since it's not my money, I don't terribly care that much, but I think you should spend the big bucks on stuff that you will wear often so you get the best use of your money.

I'm really just looking for a reputable place to make this for me. I worded it badly, I suppose. I just want this jacket. I really don't care through which medium I obtain it, as long as it's quality.

It is a dreadful example of costume - not normal clothes. Find somewhere cheap, you would hardly wear it in public.

I don't want to rain on your parade, but there is a chance that Field won't make a jacket like this.

I'd say just go splurge for a Tom Ford jacket if it fits you well enough. It might be around the same price (2.5k)... not sure. He makes shawl lapel dinner jackets in interesting fabrics. From F/W 2011 he has some in velvet which look pretty damn awesome IMO. The model is the Wetherby Cocktail Jacket.

Edit: oops, I think they retail for slightly over 3500.
