Many good trends start like this. People get used to it and then it is the norm.

If they copy somebody else they usually do some variation that makes it different.

Given her dress, that photo is at least 60 years old. Moreover I'd say those in the picture were privately schooled (American use).* Sadly not everyone is afforded the luxury of being a publicly schooled common man.

* At the very least it was staged to appear that way.

I think it works sometimes. Of course, some of his other outfits I disagree with.

^^ Choice of shoes are important, e.g. loafers.

Also, no socks.

It works well if done correctly.

I am 16 years old and would totally wear it. But mostly when it's warm I'd just wear shorts and a shirt or t-shirt. With other words not very classic. But it would definately look good on a young dude, no socks.

Hello 90's!

I don't think it works, I see a short with shirt, and loafers or single monk but a jacket, nah.

Theoretically it can be pulled off. Theoretically. But unless you're that dude in the first post, or unless you're living off your family's 19th century whale oil fortune, you can't.

The effect is sheer, undiluted douchery. Try it and someone will stab you in the throat with a key, and you will deserve it.

Must it be whale oil? Can it be earlier than 19th century? And come on ... using the term douchery is ... well ... sheer unadulterated douchery. wink.gif

It's unlikey it can be done amid others of the general population -- unless one is in Bermuda -- but in the 'right setting' and for the right circumstances it can be and is done.

If it's hot enough for shorts, you shouldn't be wearing a jacket. And most of the time you shouldn't wear shorts.

There is a video interviewing Thomas Reily of P. Johnson tailors in Australia. He suggests for summer that you might be able to get away with shorts and a jacket.
