Plain toe blucher

I really like the look of the AE Kenilworth in dark brown but have tried it on and just doesn't seem to fit right.  I have tried multiple sizes and the best fit is still not as good as the AE Park Ave (same last).  My guess is because it is a blucher and only 3 eyelets - not as much support/force holding everything together as the balmoral PA.  I constantly feels as if it is loose and the heel slips big time.

I did see the JCrew Preston blucher that looks nice and has 5 or 6 eyelets.  Anyone have any experience with JCrew shoes?  I highly doubt they would be recraftable (which is a shame for $215 when I could get the AE Kenilworth for just a few dollars more).

Any thoughts?  Really want a brown, every day work shoe and love the look of the Kenilworth...just can't get it to fit right.

BTW - already did multiple searches for JCrew shoe reviews (both here and at AAC and not much was found...)

AE told me to size down 1/2 size in the Kenilworth, even though it is on the same last as the Park Avenue.  That worked for me, even though I ended up going with a different shoe.  Did you try 1/2 size down with the same width as your Park Avenues?

I would avoid the calf J. Crew shoes, unless it's something like an Alden collab. The leather on the ones I've seen has been about Johnston & Murphy quality, and the shopworn ones didn't make me think they age well. I've passed 'em up at $50

I did try sizing down (1/2 size with same width) and did not enjoy the fit at all.  Much tighter and felt much narrower (which is weird for just  being 1/2 size down).  Also felt very short...I don't know, just overall did not enjoy the fit.

I figured I would even go with my normal size and just really cinch down on the laces to minimize heel slippage but not sure it is worth it (don't want to buy the shoes, shine them all up, and then never wear them - waste my own money).

I liked the look of the JCrew ones - but not many praise their quality.
