Louis Vuitton Shoes Aren't Gemmed (Video), So Why Are Edward Greens?

It looks like the welt is sewn by hand and not gemmed. It's a good video. I don't like the shoes, but I appreciate the craft.

It is pretty damn impressive.

I enjoy my Louis Vuitton shoes. Some of the designs can be tacky, but it is my go to brand when it has simple shoes

LV does not gem their dress shoes collection at all; its mostly blake stitched.  But I can't seem to find the one that's hand welted in LV stores in the US.

Some of the designs are tacky, but you could say the same to designs from Loake and sometimes G&G as well.

Leather quality, LV is up there w/ the high end shoemakers IME but I am not an expert in leathers.

Sole construction, LV is better than most of the UK makers; soles waist are skinner and heels/sole separation is more pronounced than G&G.

I'm pretty sure most are, unless it's a 360 degree welt. Maybe a few extra nails.

That video has "Publicity stunt" written all over it, to make you feel like you are getting more than a $400 pair of shoes with $475 of branding when you snag a pair of $875 LVs.

Jil sander used to have press things about "just finishing up an order with Lattanzi," when there was only a very few models made by him (sometimes just one per season). The vast majority were Prada-made and just standard $500 "designer" shoes. The Lattanzis were $2000+ and only sold at the flagships.

LV shoes are very decent designer shoes and I've enjoyed the pairs I've owned, but so overpriced as to make any question of manufacture quality secondary. If you just buy a "general" pair of LV shoes, you'll be getting a decent designer shoe. It won't be a surprising delight at how well it's made for the price you paid or the little details they threw in. It will mostly be, "I like the design of these shoes! Aren't they cool?"

It is luxury goods. What would one expect? One must realise that it is not only Louis Vuitton who are are charging '$400' shoe for $900. (even that is conservative profit imo). It is without a doubt the attention to details in LV shoes are immaculate. I am not in the same page for most designs but the conservatives shoes they had in previous collections had me stopped in my tracks, pondering serious thoughts about making the purchase.

All true but my point was only to caution again the assumption that in general LV is concerned with producing a superlative shoe for their customers in line with the price they paid. They're not, and they want to make a DECENT shoe that you'll pay for that satisfies the design requirements of Marc Jacobs' creative team. Further, my point was only that recently many of the major brands are pushing this "heritage and attention to quality" meme as a publicity stunt, of which this video seems a part.

Gucci even did a "chat with our artisan bag makers" event, where they had a few leather artisans from Italy briefly working in stores around the world. Do you think the average Gucci bag is made by hand by an Italian artisan? No, but some elderly grandpa sitting at his little leather stand makes a better story for potential purchasers of a $1900 handbag than a Chinese laborer punching away at a machine in a huge factory.

LV's shoes are better than other designers, but they're also more expensive. Same with bags. A "standard" anything from LV will be 20-30% more than Prada, Gucci, or others.

Look closely at the frames from 3:40 mark, there is clearly gemming there.

Edit: my bad, it's the flap from the channeled sole.

Where?  Weren't it just machine stitching on the channeled sole and then closing it?
