Another "Hotel Rec in San Francisco" Threak

Hey gang,

I'll be a few nights in SF around April 1st.

I'll be spending four days at the Cheese School of SF near Powell & Francisco Sts.

Don't know the area at all- would prefer something walking distance - checked the nearby hotels, the usual Hilton/Hyatt/Sheraton lot.
Would prefer to keep it around $200-250 a night.

That's right around the block (maybe the three or four blocks) from me. Not a great area for hotels, unfortunately, since there are so many at Fisherman's Wharf, there isn't a lot of incentive to open them just off the wharf. Argonaut isn't bad, though, and there is a B&B on Washington Square that looks charming and is in a beautiful location. Let me know if you need any other advice.

Edit: Here. it is right in your price range. Only depends on whether you like this kind of place. Just a few blocks from Francisco and Powell.

Matt-

Washington Inn is perfect. Was looking for a boutique hotel.

Booked it. Any hidden must-do food gems in the vicinity?

Thanks

You are in the "Italian" neighborhood there, but the Italian food is pretty shitty. Chinatown is just next door, and if you like Chinese you will find some of the best in the world. Easy walk. I'd suggest R&G Lounge first, then depending on what you like, there are more. Otherwise, you probably want to walk down to the Ferry Building and get some oysters one evening. That is pretty great. Less hidden gem, but still really good is Slanted Door, also in the Ferry Building. They also have Cowgirl Creamery in there, but you will not be short on cheese. If you have a car, there are more, but the ones I've listed are somewhere from a short walk to a nice walk.

Matt-

is A16 any good?

It was quite good when it opened, but the douche factor was off the charts. Haven't been in some time, but if you want pizza Una Pizza Napoletana is your best bet. It is great.

Thanks again- I'm told A16's wine list for Southern wines is commendable.

I would imagine it is. I liked pretty much everything about it, but the crowd is awful. That matters more to a local than to a visitor.

I can't believe that jerk left New York soon after I moved there. Only ate at Una Pizza once--always meant to go back because it's the best pizza I've ever had.

Perhaps if you had continued listening to Rush Limbaugh, your presence would not have been so odious as to force him to flee across the country.

Yeah- I get that.
I may owe it to a colleague to eat a meal there.

Ha! Yes, next time you're at Una Pizza, you should chat up Mangieri about how much you both like Rush Limbaugh.
