AE Kendall vs. Park Ave with a tuxedo

Hi all,

My brother is getting married in May and has been asking me about formalwear. I just wanted to see what the forum thinks about using the Allen Edmonds Kendall vs Park Aves with a tux. Since the Kendall has been discontinued, it's really cheap right now ($99) from the Shoebank so my brother can afford it. On the positive side, it's patent leather with a plain toe front. On the minus side, it's a blutcher. Since it's only has two eyelets I imagine the trousers will cover at least part of them though so maybe only the plain toe front will show. Here are some pics:

Since he's not really going to spend over $100 on shoes he's going to wear only a few times in his life, the other option would be spend some $$$ to purchase something like a Park Avenue which will be more useful in his wardrobe. He has some black Cole Haans which I've already nixed for the wedding but I don't think he'd be opposed to getting the PA, especially if he can get it from the Shoebank or on sale. For work (CA business casual) he doesn't really need it so he's fine with what he has.

Getting a C&J Cheam or something similar is not in the budget, so is the patent leather/plain toe front more important for a tux even if it's a blutcher, or is it better to spend twice as much (or more) for a balmoral that will serve him better down the road, even if he doesn't need it in his current job?

Thanks!
Fred

I wore the Kendall with a notch lapel tuxedo for my wedding. Given all the factors involved, that was the right choice for me and I remain happy with my decision. Just make sure your brother is happy with his attire.

Thanks! I think he'll probably go with the Kendall. I doubt he can find patent shoes anywhere near AE quality for the Shoebank price ($99). He does want the attire to look "correct" even though he's trying to keep it on a budget.
