First time suit buyer need some help on a few things

Alright, I'm in need of a suit(s) and a blazer. I don't have a ton of cash, so I was thinking along the lines of the J Crew Ludlow suits. My first question is would a grey suit and a navy blazer be a good start to get me through a variety of situation? I generally only wear brown shoes, so I'm thinking a black suit can wait.

My second question is about fitting. I have been working out, and while I have no intention of getting bulky; I worry about the shoulders beaching a bit small. Has anyone had experience with this type of issue, or should I be okay?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1) Don't get a black suit until you have about 40 suits already. They are for the most part useless.
2) Get a charcoal suit, navy blazer and medium grey trousers. You can do a lot with them.
3) Think about trying to get a Brooks Brother' Fitzgerlad suit on sale, they go on sale often. Ludlow, is not a terrible choice.
4) Many men have a variety of fit issues. It is hard to say, but make sure the shoulders fit your natural shoulders perfectly, and easily. If you can button it much can be worked by a tailor to make it better. If you are working out you are more likely going to have fit issues in the chest so you don't want anything squeezing too tight there.
5) Good luck.

You can buy 1818 Fitz suits on B&S for less than Ludlow money. The 1818 suits are superior.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

Steve, Looking at the 1818 suits, they are about $1,100-- almost double the ludlow. Though, I'm not doubting the quality bit.
