Be sure to compose the image in your mind before you begin
Put on some entertaining music, something you won't be distracted by, something soothing*
Aperture wiiiiide to get some shallow depth of field
Exposure time up up up so the little fibers dance in the light
RAW format for the ultra-close

please share whatever you listened to for our enjoyment as well

It's on, baby !

MURAKAMI

I like details very much. Tolstoy wanted to write the total description; my description is focused on a very small area. When you describe the details of small things, your focus gets closer and closer, and the opposite of Tolstoy happens—it gets more unrealistic. That’s what I want to do.

INTERVIEWER

To take the focus so close that you pass through the zone of realism, and the everyday and the banal becomes strange again?

MURAKAMI

The closer it gets, the less real it gets.

This is clearly the more appropriate video for the thread.

^ I just watched this on mute with the The Fountain video (above) as soundtrack. It was epic.

Guys, I entered the thread listening to this:

Is this okay? Am I still allowed here?

I believe your video is mislabeled. Joplin never produced a recording. It might be a piano roll (I don't have sound here so cannot listen), but that isn't exactly him "playing" the composition. foo.gif

so, this is slightly off-topic, but I feel it belongs here. I walked into a fabric store with the intention of sewing my own "rick" tank or t-shirt. So I'm walking around looking at fabrics, trying to get the right one. I chose a fabric and it happened to be $50/yard cashmere/wool blend. damn. I settled on a cotton/poly blend and a rayon blend, but I have a new appreciation for nice fabrics.

This was taken with an iphone and a hand lens (I'm a geology major). It's just cotton

I thought it was a pretty cool that the iphone could focus on that

I don't really have much of interest, and I think I could have done a much better job focusing for sure. Maybe I'll get some better light and use a tripod and try this again on something more interesting?

My daily winter accessories. Scarf 95% wool / 5% polymide. Hat 68% lambswool / 29% cashmere 3% polyamide

Quality is pretty poor and I don't own this anymore but people seemed to like it so I'll allow myself to recycle from an old B&S teacha.gif
