Just got back from signing all the paper work and giving deposits. Can't wait to see this job finished. The travertine layout is in an Ashlar pattern with 8x16 as the smallest piece with 16x16, 16x24 and 24x24 to complete the pattern. Outside of, because travertine, part of the reason I went for the upgrade is the large area involved will look better with those larger pieces vs. standard paver stones. This is the colour we picked but in a smaller Ashlar pattern:




They already have permits and engineering done and I should find out early next week when excavation will start.

They feel it meets code and one of my conditions they specifically call out if the fence fails to meet code they will modify it to fit code with materials matching existing. The only spot they're really worried about is part of the wall off to the side where our pump and filter will be and they've called out adding a couple of courses of matching bricks if required by the inspector.

I really went through everything with a fine toothed comb and got everything I wanted. I've learned a lot about construction management in the last several years at work, and of course, my wife's career is PM'ing huge civil projects.

You have so many problems with pests/disease.  What is going on?

Most of it was spent rehabbing the yard, which was kind of neglected when I got the house. Most people probably wouldn't care as long as it's green, but I do. There are practical upsides--once you've eliminated weeds you can go a lot longer without cutting your grass, especially with centipede. I think it's working, as since I moved here three years ago or so two of my neighbors have re-sodded their yards completely, I assume to keep up...

Professional-grade pest/fung/herbicides aren't cheap and they often aren't available in small quantities. But nothing else works. The tree thing just seems to be bad luck; I haven't seen this disease on any of the other oaks in the immediate neighborhood. But I have noticed a lot of oaks in this general area dying for no apparent reason. Fortunately the tree antibiotic seems to be pretty cheap (~$15 per treatment, and only one is required per year).

Replaced heat and AC, glad I did the house is finally comfortable, previous unit was undersized, loud and an energy inefficient.

First try at marble counter failed due to idiocy of people involved.




Second go at it with new material, some more expensive Italian marble with pink and blue veins. I am glad idiots have intervened, as I like this new marble better.

"Ruin" might be an exaggeration, but it will etch and stain it for sure. I know from personal experience.
