Just get a quality nylon carpet in a plain, neutral, inoffensive shade. Google the different types of nylon to make sure you get one that's durable.
Or, alternatively, buy cheap carpet and plan to replace it when you move out. That might end up being a smarter move. Most people can't tell the difference between cheap carpet and quality carpet when it's new, but they sure can tell the difference between new carpet and old.
I do have some experience with "berber" carpet and I can tell you it does not
wear well, even if you buy the more expensive stuff. It's also easy to damage the loops, and when you do they fray noticeably, and you cannot trim it like you can regular carpet. It's hard to clean. It's hard to install -- hard to seam and installers often damage it when they're stretching it. Then they'll deny it. I had some put in and the installers claimed I damaged it by vacuuming it when I was cleaning up the mess they left. It ended up with me waving a vacuum cleaner in the guy's face daring him to try to recreate the damage with it. Not a fun experience and it turned out to be really lousy carpet even after it was replaced.
