Double sinks may be nice...but when you've only got 1000 sq ft to work with, I'd much rather have a closet or room for two more people at my dining table.

Completely agree with that. There's no substitute for raw square footage but I still say to use it wisely.

I have a room specifically for TV and another area that's part of my study where I also watch tv.

I've kept them out of my bedroom and living room. Though sometimes I do use the iPad for movies while hanging out next to the fireplace.

This may not be the ideal thread for this, but I don't trust most threads for solid input, so here goes:

Anyone have any good sources for oversized down comforters and duvet covers?

Our comforter is roughly 84x100, and that's if I stretch it out to full length; it is more comfortably 80x96 when relaxed. This always struck me as silly; with a standard 76x80 king bed, it only overhangs about 8 inches on each side of the bed. With people in it, there's no overhang at all. Yet they always show pictures like this:

Down-Comforters-Hotel-Grand-Oversized-500-Thread-Count-Damask-Stripe-White-Down-Comforter--3967818-febf4923-4c1f-404d-9083-466e10086a7a.jpg

which is obviously total bullshit.

I'm not above Overstock-like brands, quality, and pricing, but size counts here.

Someone suggested the Company Store. They do have some options in a 118-inch size, but selection in mid weight is not great, or very expensive.

Also, if anyone has experience with both down and down alternatives, I'd love to hear how the two compare. I have never found anything like down to just envelop me while breathing so well and feeling so light and unobtrusive. I would definitely consider alternatives; I halfway even wonder if the down contributes to my allergy issues.

Can't speak to the large comforter issue...but I quite like my primaloft (from garnet hill IIRC) comforter in the winter. I would be bothered by overheating/not breathing, and it is not an issue with it.

Yup. A house we are looking at right now has this and then WICs immediately outside on each side (two doors into the MB). It is not as space efficient but the bedroom still has around 18X18 area left which is plenty imo.

I can't speak to the size issue, but I bought a medium weight down alternative from Macy's, and it is very warm. It suffers from the same size issue though. To me the advantage of the down alternative is it seems you can get a high quality one of equal warmth for much less money .

Separate wings is really the way to go.

My wife doesn't let it get cool enough at night to where I would want to be under down, so I tend to just push it over to her side. We have a frette light comforter over the top that keeps me perfect.

I wish the one known as Dave Bogart could respond to this.
