Brooks Brothers "MOS" stamp

Have Googled and searched the forum, but can't find the answer. I have started to see in thrift stores and on ebay Brooks Brothers items with the stamp "MOS" or "MOS writing on the tag. I am guessing this is for factory seconds, or regents or something like that, but an anyone let me know for sure. Thanks!

I think they are samples. The reason I guess this is because I've own some C&J and Alden for BB shoes with MOS on them. Seconds or factory rejects will be caught before getting to BB. Alden and C&J will label and sell their factory rejects before ever shipping them to BB.

It stands for merchandise out of stock. They are usually returns, defective, or flawed. Not samples.

Well maybe they are returns or stock no longer carried by the store. However, I am certain that the shoes are generally not seconds.

MOS can be seconds simply because first quality items can become seconds after BB has accepted them. Display shoes are an example.

yes they are... if they can not be sold as first quality they are marked mos.... say a pen writes on them in store, display, returned, etc.
