Everywhere seems to have different thoughts on the UK to US shoe size conversion. Some mark 10UK as 10.5US and some mark them as 11US. I realize it varies from brand to brand, model to model, but what is everyone's experience with the size conversion?

Half Size Up?
Whole Size Up?

Your question is too broad. It depends on a) the brands you compare, b) the respective lasts, and c) your feet.

EG for me is a half size up. Lobb is a whole size.

+1. Also, as mentioned, sizing will vary not only inter-make, but intra-make as well. This would be more useful if it was restricted to particular makes with specified lasts.

I am struggling with this, as I want to purchase a some half decent pair of shoes from pediwear, and already missed a shoe I adored from Tyrwhitt while trying to sort out this mess. A Harris seems to indicate that the Northampton makers run 1/2-1 size smaller than the comparative US size, and that is fairly consistent for those makers. Any agreement? And what about the G sizes? I am very comfortable in a US 13D, my foot being a little wide but not enough to warrant a EEE.

Thoughts on the conversion for Carmina? Particular lasts such as Simpson?

I would definitely like to know that

There is absolutely no way to be sure. Take a stab, you could be wrong.

IMO everyone else has been doing it to their own domestic or local size standard and only tries to scale it to US as an afterthought. There is no reason to think that it is always 1/2 or 1 or whatever

Carmina Simpson was .5 for me. So was the Alcudia.

My own experience, moving between Europe and North America, is that 1/2 a size is much more common across a variety of makers and models (so I am generally UK7, European 40.5, US 7.5). However, as others have said, there is no absolute rule. And it gets even more complicated with widths...

Although I think it's a full size up, I find it feels a half size up.

In my very limited experience my 10.5D US worked out as 9.5E/F UK: AS monks, Barker Harrison boots, Cheaney derby & monk, C&J Weymouth. My C&J for RL Marlow (325 last) shell wingtips are 10D on the advice of the RL website, & they were very tight in the toebox & vamp. I had them stretched, but next time I'd go for a 10E or 10.5D.
