Does anybody know where i can find information on which country manufacturers a particular brands clothes please ?

 

Reason for asking is that i'm sick to death of paying decent money for brands that are moving their production output to China where they're paying low rates but still charging high bucks to their customer base. prime example is that well known swedish brand ACNE that charge a lot of money for their clothes but are getting them made in China probably for peanuts.I've recently send one of their sweaters back to Mr Porter upon discovering its made in China.Now i find out that Brooks Brothers that quintessential american brand that prides itself on its history is also farming out its clothes to to China.

Nothing against the Chinese but i generally find that clothes made in that country are ultimately crap.

Same site (Saks). I suppose when an item is made someplace 'good', they'll tell you. If it's Chinese, it'll read 'imported'. Of course, that's an assumption.

You can e-mail the site and ask them. Or you could do a search for the item and include the phrase "made in" and sometimes a site will show up. Those are the only ways I know.

The problem is many brands have some lines that are MIC, some that are MIR (Romania) and top lines that are MII or MIF. This applies to brands such as Burberry and RL. I usually just take the time to check the tag and if you see a cashmere sweater for $150 you can probably save by guessing where it's made.

If you're really worried about country of origin, you'll have to focus on more exclusive designers/brands (e.g., Dior, John Lobb), those that make it a point to make their products in their home country (e.g., Ferragamo), and/or get it customized close to home. Otherwise, I always check.

well, some of the clothes made in Italy but actually it's made in China, they just put the "made in Italy" label on after imported from China. or maybe the clothes are made by Chinese hands from a factory in US. Have you ever heard the story of prada?

I'll recommend to actually look in to the actual brands and do more research abou the Item itself.

All companies have different tiers of quality made in different parts of the world.

Make sure that look for the specific collection and that will guide you to where it's been made.

You can't go wrong with some Lobb or Green or Ferragamo which I usually go with. These brands are always in house brands which refuse to outsource the production to other parts of the workd.

There is no definitive list that I am aware of. This is a list of made in the USA goods, but it's hardly complete.

If shopping in person, you can check the tag of course. If on-line, many websites will tell you. If they don't, you can pretty much assume it's made in China - they'll usually make a point of saying if something is made in Italy, USA, England, etc.

Oh I get it, the negative opinion on made in China isn't about poor labour and manufacturing standards, It's about the fact that they're Chinese!

Retailers are pretty iffy though, especially the bigger ones such as Barneys, NM and BG. Barneys will put imported even if it's denim made in Japan and NM / BG mess up the country of origin all the time. Just got a BoO oxford that was listed as imported but was actually USA made

There are great items made in china, there are also greedy american business that chose try to make things the cheapest they can and charge as much as possible.

Why are americans so brainwashed into thinking made in america means good quality... just look at american cars, a lot of american made stuff is crap, like anywhere it depends on who is making it and what quality of raw materials they are using.

Who cares were it was made as long as the quality is good!

This thread should be, where can I find great quality for low prices...
