Who is Bill Julian and where to see his work?

P.S. I am afraid Hughes has a backlog of orders until 2014.

It doesn't hurt to ask and send him a message to see if he has a backlog of orders. I'm still waiting for a message back from him, hopefully if hes really busy then i'll ask Bill Julian.

Bill Julian is a custom belt maker. I never had any experiences from him but based on the reviews and posts about him makes me feel confident that I should ask for a custom order. His wallets are very pricey and indeed very nice. :)

What makes me so interested in hughe low's work is that he offers a variety of colors. I think his wallets that are made of alligator are only alligator based on the pictures he posted on tumblr. I'm not sure if its good or not, but most makers would use like alligator leather for the interior/exterior and the currency compartment would be made of calf or some other exotics.

I just met him last Wed to pick up my alligator strap for a vintage Zenith. Fyi, Hughes was down with severe food poisoning in Feb and had to be hospitalised briefly.

He will be in Hong Kong all of next week for a trade fair and I have informed Hughes of the queries raised in this thread. I hope he will respond when he gets the chance ;-)

Hope this helps!

Whats the quality of his alligator leather skins and finishes?

Are they up on par with house of fleming, hermes, ralph lauren, april in paris?

You guys need to know a few things about Hughes:

  • He is literally a one man operation.
  • He runs this whole operation from home. I think he still lives with his parents.
  • He is an "artist" in the sense that he is a person who is really seriously fucking disorganised, and has no concrete idea how to run a business well, or expand it past a web-enabled version of a lemonade stand, let alone improve efficiency, etc etc.
  • His stuff is INCREDIBLY well made, and for all intents and purposes is the equal of Hermes quality, so all the BS along the way is completely, totally worth it.

I thought others had mentioned House of Fleming to be of higher quality than Hughes?

I know his work is worth the wait, but his inability to communicate lately is upsetting. When I first started working with him he answered all e-mails with in a day or so and now I can't even get him to respond. I have been waiting for my wallet and a french purse he was making for a friend for over a year now with excuse and delay after another. I am thinking I will never see them, but a response would be nice. He does not answer on e-mail, PM , FB messages or Tumbler messages. That is just poor on any account.

How do we exactly buy the items?

Paypal? Bank transfer? Western Union?

Do we put a down payment first then he make the goods?

The reason I ask because I've never bought him. I did however, receive a email back after 5 days.

No matter how good the product, I would not buy anything or put down any money until the craftsman has his act together. "Has his act together" is somewhat nebulous to define but waiting a year is clearly OTT.

Mr K you need to try to get your money back, contact PayPal or your CC company to see if a reverse can be done.

He needs to stop accepting orders if he clearly can't hack coping with the demand. SnowKING I don't get how you can even be considering an order given what Mr K just said.

Since he had issues with getting my first belt done in a timely manner I did not send payment for them. My deal was payment on delivery. I am not out money, but the fact that I recommended his work to one of my good friends and he did not deliver was disappointing.

I saw a purse incompleted on his tumblr. I think that's Mr. K's purse that he ordered from Hughes.

Hughes hasn't contacted Mr. K for how long now? He contacted me? o.o ignoring Mr. K? maybe. who knows.

he's a one man doing all our orders but hes probably got a lot of work ahead with people he meet in person too not just online orders
