The kvetching of the low information left is actually kind of sad. I keep explaining to people that we are electing a president and not a king. I try and explain that a POTUS only has so much power and must deal with the legislative branch. This usually yields the result of, "They'll do ANYTHING HE WANTS!!11!" I then explain how both Trump and Cruz are rather disliked by the party machinery and point out even Obama the Beloved could not get his version of Obamacare passed while controlling both houses showing the limits on presidential power. That, nine times out of ten, yields me a, "ZMOG! Repubs killed Obamacare." The other 10% of the time I'm told the Dems did not have 60 votes in the Senate and I point out Bernie and Leiberman were caucusing with the Dems giving exactly 60 votes, once again showing the limits of presidential power.

Zero percent of the time do I convince them.

You are trying to show people facts when they are voting based on emotion.

I could be way off but as far as I remember they never actually reached 60 (and it takes 60 Senate votes to even have a chance of being voted upon) for only a 4 month period. That's because Kennedy was at home dying and Al Franken (sounds like an offshoot of Al Qaeda if you ask me) wasn't seated until the spring, Byrd got sick or something, and it was in that small window that Obamacare was passed bore Kennedy's Mass seat turned R. He didn't have total control during the entirety of his first two years in office though.

There was a distinct window that proper management of the situation gave the 60 votes needed. However, even Obama the Beloved was getting pushback from some Dems, which just goes to prove my premise is correct, that presidential power is limited. Some Dems were getting bought out at the cost of billions for their vote, again proving my point.

There were two periods where the Democrats had 60 votes in the Senate in the 111th Congress (both of them relatively short, but close together).

Yeah, cops not issuing speeding tickets would be a world gone mad.

Suck a dick.

Because the job of the Senate is to make sure the President gets his way as quickly as possible.

Explains the equanimity with which you've accepted the Obama presidency.

Have I been an, "OMFG! Muslim socialist!211!!" person? If you feel I have please point out examples of it vs. reasonable and/or measured criticism.

You're just mad because you thought you'd be the first non-native-american elected president.

The online version of my old hometown newspaper seems to use FB log in for the comments section. Here's a really stupid one:
Quote:
Linda K · Oshawa, Ontario
Wynne needs to step down she is destroying this country and it seems she just wants people out on the street because that's where it's headed Now she is messing health care when does it stop Wynne and the liberals need to take a major pay cut see how they like it

Wynne is the premier of Ontario yet apparently is destroying the entire country.
