As opposed to lumping all immigrants together as if our only options were immigration: take it or leave it. Asians immigrants pull up the numbers, overall, but what it shows is that more immigrant is just leading to a more stratified society. I thought we were against inequality?

Also, the statistics you presented are also skewed in some ways -- like showing income for an imaginary three-person household rather than individuals, make no account of the very high birth rates of the worst-performing immigrants, etc.

Here's another one:

[It says it doesn't include Mexicans, but the numbers are basically the same, IIRC]

Who's we?  Inequality of results will always happen - senseless to oppose it.

I also didn't say we have to take it or leave it with all immigration.  You just showed charts that compared second generation immigrants to white Americas.  Why not second generation white immigrants (which we should probably compare Western Europe to Eastern Europe)?  Why not all native born Americans (for more than two generations)?

You're accusing me of clumping all immigrants together to make the numbers look better, while you're separating native-born Americans to make your numbers look better.

The purpose of the charts was to show that the children of large classes of immigrants are not, in fact, doing as well as you suggested.

They presumably used white Americans as a baseline because it was an easily available statistic of a largely "native" population, as opposed to the nation as a whole, which isn't. Why would you want to compare immigrants and their children to a baseline that already includes them? That makes no sense. The only purpose it serves is to distort the numbers to make them appear more successful than they really are.

Because there are millions of black and hispanic Americans who have family lines tied to the US for hundreds of years.  There are also a lot of white immigrants into the US.  This forum has at least one.

I am "separating native born Americans" because there is a real difference in the outcomes between the descendants of different immigrant groups. You did the same thing by distinguishing between Americans whose parents are immigrants and those who are not, so don't get all high and mighty about how we're all one nation, blah blah blah.

I didn't draft the chart so I don't have to defend the fact that they offered white Americans for comparison.

So if I'm following here both your sets of statistics show second gen immigrants preforming at least slightly better but certainly not appreciably worse than multi generational Americans?

No one has offered a baseline of "multigenerational" Americans to compare them to.

This unfortunately still includes 2nd generation immigrants, but see page 6 for the table.

Change in real median household income between 2013 and 2014 varied by nativity of the householder. The income of households maintained by a foreign-born person increased 4.3 percent, from $47,561 to $49,592; while the median income of house holds maintained by a native-born person declined 2.3 percent, from $55,989 to $54,678. The median incomes of households maintained by a naturalized citizen ($59,261) or a non-citizen ($40,795), in 2014, were not statistically different from their respective 2013 medians (Table 1).

In 2014, households maintained by a naturalized citizen ($59,261) had the highest median household income, followed by households maintained by a native-born person ($54,678). Households maintained by a non-citizen had the lowest household income ($40,795)
