Seriously, you fuckers seem to base your opinions on some mythical spic. All the Mexicans I know work like hell and pretty much personify American values and put paid to the notion that you can't be poor and coloured and make it in America.

The "model minority" is racist, neutering of The Other, and buying into privilege all at the same time. I'm happy to say most textbooks in elementary school explicitly prohibit such damaging portrayals of our minorities.

This is my experience also, and why I am not as uptight about the situation as I would be if they were Muslims. I do still have concerns that this mass migration will change the character of the country and not for the better but its water under the bridge.

Anecdotes are great and all, but the statistics tell another story: high unemployment, poor school/professional performance, higher crime rates, etc.

For Arabs, on the other hand, IIRC they are much better.

ETA:
Quote:
MEDIAN HOUSEHOLD
INCOME
The median household income for
all households in the United States
in 2010 dollars was $51,914,
about $4,500 dollars lower than
the median household income for
Arab households ($56,433—see
Figure 2). Lebanese households
had the highest median income
($67,264), while Iraqi and Yemeni
households had lower median
incomes ($32,075 and $34,667,

It's worth noting that a significant number of American Arabs are Lebanese, probably Christians, but I don't think the numbers are much worse for Muslims.

Ataturk, you ought to be rallying Black America to oppose this migration. They are the ones that are currently receiving the start of what will turn out to be a multi generational screwing. Wages are suppressed and low skill job competition becomes fierce. Also, in my extensive but admittedly anecdotal experience Mexicans are considerably worse racists than any southern whites I have encountered and they do not share the cultural affinities Blacks and Southern Whites have in common.

I dated a Yemeni-Israeli American woman for a while last year. I don't think she made much money (she worked for a non-profit).

Second generation immigrants are less likely to be in poverty, more likely to complete college, and have incomes consistent with the nation as a whole.

Also, our immigrant population is smaller than it was in WW1.

Actually the whole thing is interesting:

No no. Immigrants are bad.

That might be more convincing if The Atlantic hadn't published an article on this issue a few days ago presenting the numbers in a more honest way:
Quote:
The data are mixed. When it comes to median income, second-generation Hispanics fall way behind second-generation Asian Americans and the general population of white Americans, making just over $50,000 on average, which is at least $15,000 less than the median earnings for both those groups. They also fall behind all other groups when it comes to educational attainment. For second-generation Asian Americans, more than 50 percent of the population receives a bachelor’s; for second-generation black Americans it’s about 40 percent. For the overall white population it’s roughly 35 percent. But for the children of Hispanic immigrants, college-degree holders made up less than 25 percent of the population.

[They say "less than 25%" but it's actually 21%, since it's the same numbers from the Pew survey cited above]

So whites are substantially behind both second gen Asians and blacks?

Only in education.

What he's done is move the goals posts slightly.  Several in this thread are complaining about immigrants because they don't integrate into America very well.  What they've done in those two graphs is remove non-white native born Americas as though they're not part of the American culture (like it or not).
