I was convinced he was going to be a man of his word and concede if we showed him data. I'm guess I'm really the fool.

If you massage the data firmly enough you can frame it so as to regain your aloof smugness.

No, no, you're right; you've shown me the data, and I concede, that republicans give more on average than democrats on paper.

But, (and it's a big but) that is not the whole picture which is what I was pointing out. Really, it doesn't matter which party you belong to; it comes down to religion and wealth. Obviously, wealthier people can give more to charities (although, wealthier people give less in terms of a percentage of their wealth), and republicans tend to be wealthier on the whole.

I seriously don't know why I'm arguing over who gives more to charity.

Does the massage come with a happy ending?

I don't know why you're arguing either. The data is pretty clear.

I'm really not all that smug, if you met me. But, if you can 'massage the data', surely there's something wrong with the way the data has been collected, no? And, I apply that to any scientific study.

Hopefully not from Piobaire. (No offense.)

About giving to charity. Your trolling is lazy.

This is from the MIT study the article I posted sources. So, actually, I take my concession back (that was quick. That's what she said). Conservatives/republicans and liberals/democrats give equally.

The study also concluded, that conservative charity donations were less likely to go to the poor/in need--paying salaries and building costs instead.

Feel butt-hurt now, Piobaire (to use your term against you)?

Yet another bullshit conservative angle which has had holes punched through it.

Quote:
'In this paper, we first show that conservatives and liberals are equally generous in their donation habits. This pattern holds at both the individual and state level, and contradicts the conventional wisdom, that partisans differ in their generosity. Second, we show that while levels of giving are roughly equivalent, liberals are much more likely to donate to secular organizations, and conservatives are more likely to donate to religious causes, especially their own congregation.'

I'm not the one trying to massage data; that would be the folks you identify with. As to your last post, again, all you're doing is restating what I said the results turn out to be after said massaging and framing.

The best thing about talking with you that you're so full of yourself you actually have no idea what my positions are on many important societal issues. You've got a whole set of opinions already assigned to me merely because I think you're an idiot.

Bah, Ayn Rand was a massive hypocrite. Fuck her. Not that I'm agreeing with JapanAlex in any way.

It's interesting that the main interest in her, at least in this thread, is coming from JA. As I said invoking her is merely an attempt on his part to delegitimize anyone that murmurs less than absolute agreement with him. It's a common and low information ploy from JA types that helps prevent the need to ponder maybe they are not 100% correct.

Coming from a guy who does the exact same thing.

I'm not a mind reader. If you actually said anything decent, I would wholeheartedly agree with you. I agree with people when they say something right--regardless of whether I dislike them overall or not. I don't assign opinions to people, unless they show me evidence that they lean one way or another on issues which they've actually brought up in discussion. You do exactly the same thing. Are your barrage of anti-liberal posts not ringing any bells?
