I don't see the world (economy) coming out of the 21 C with same style of capitalism as we know it, technology and automation and other unforeseeable advances will destroy what we have or another bloody, messy revolution will.

And please no more 'that's what they said about teh horse buggy taking away jobs derp derp' bullshit.

Except that's exactly what they said about new technology replacing every old technology since the inventon of the wheel. Seriously, you are on the wrong side of the last 200,000 years of history.

Your lack of imagination about what the future holds is not a legitimate basis for making policy decisions.

Atlanta forgets to salt the roads for a snow storm everyone knew was coming. The Atlantic says:

Which leads into the blame game. Republicans want to blame government (a Democrat thing) or Atlanta (definitely a Democrat thing). Democrats want to blame the region’s dependence on cars (a Republican thing), the state government (Republicans), and many of the transplants from more liberal, urban places feel the same way you might about white, rural, southern drivers. All of this is true to some extent but none of it is helpful.

No one I know actually posted this, but it's so ridiculous I had to share it somewhere.

The last year I was down there, we got eight inches of snow and it stayed under freezing for a week. The whole area was completely paralyzed. It didn't really make national news because it hit on a Sunday and nobody got stranded, but they're just utterly incapable of handling these things. A week later, there was still significant amounts of snow on the highways. Wasn't a plow in the entire county.

A link (presumably) about how terrible shampoo is (I'm not wasting my time reading that shit), along with the following comment:

I've only Poo'd once since 2007:) and atop all the health benefits, wonder how many plastic bottles I've kept off my karma, and how much money I've saved!

Imagine how good it must've felt going the opposite direction of the main traffic flow. I get warm and fuzzy just thinking about it

I've lived in Atlanta too, and snow isn't that rare there. Shutting down the city is what's supposed to happen. They just waited far too long to do it this time, which is why everybody got stuck on the roads.

Hey everyone!

Guess what?

"If you bbq with contacts in you go blind!"

No you don't. Seriously, type "snopes contacts" into google its the first result, word for word what you just posted.

3rd Wave Feminist Group:

"SUPERBOWL SUNDAY IS THE CHRISTMAS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE"

Actually theres no evidence of this.

Ex:

"OMG Theres those disposable coffee puck thingies are now (90%) biodegradable!"

And they cost like 60¢ a cup, are only 90% biodegradable, and biodegradable plastic is not great, its 14¢ to brew your own, and totally biodegradable. Espresso is marginally more expensive but has even less waste.

I just want to post Tim Minchin's "Storm" every day and tag people in it.

Edit: Only one of these are political, oh no!

I actually remember the year this first broke. It was everywhere with very serious faced women pleading on local and national news shows for women to be on the look out for "caveman" behaviour and "just get away from him" and know where your local domestic abuse shelter is. Of course this was completely manufactured and documented rather well in this book:

It's akin to the myth that local septic systems are overflowed at halftime because of all the people taking a dump.

I've seen a story around the last few years about the Super Bowl being the Super Bowl of human sex trafficking. I can't imagine it's possibly true - are there that many new people descending on NYC in the market for whores all of a sudden?

If they leveled this charge against, I dunno, Mardi Gras or something it would seem to hold more water for me, but what do I know? There are relatively credible people saying this; e.g. police departments and the like. I'm not sure how they measure this sort of thing?

EDIT: Nevermind. Looks like I should have done my own googling on this. My instincts were right and the posts I've seen can now be gleefully debunked. Can't wait.

The new York whore market is rather robust
