I am really going to become bowed under the double shame and guilt of not only paying less than my fair share in America but also I'm not paying it so consequence free fornication can happen in far off corners of the globe. I think the new line should be, "I got my fuck, give me money."

Your second point has already been addressed.

Btw, I know an old school health economist that was one of the first such people there were. He did some research for the World Bank and the WHO in sub-Saharan Africa in this realm. At the time of his research what Western nations thought were the answer were these big, well staffed, well supplied magnet hospitals in the capital cities. He said none of the data he ever looked at showed an improvement in the health metrics of rural people in the countries that had these big hospitals built for them by Western powers. Long story short he found the single biggest determinant of many health metrics was the literacy of married women. Distributing free birth control, building shiny hospitals, singing kumbaya...not worth shit unless women can read.

True story.

Again, if the real issue is unplanned pregnancies, then how expensive is it to have the guy pull out? If the men refuse on a mass scale to pull out, then the issue is cultural, not financial.

“Western democratic fundamentalism has made things especially hard in South Africa for one simple reason, and that is that Western opinion has consolidated around the position that unless every black in South Africa over the age of 18 is given the vote, there is still injustice in the land. The government will not … grant political equality to everyone in South Africa. Nor should it. It is preposterous at one and the same time to remark the widespread illiteracy in South Africa and to demand the universal franchise. Continue our moral pressure, by all means. But … pull back on the one-man, one vote business." -- William F. Buckley, 1986

You may have posted that as proof of how evil conservatives are, but I read that and (unsurprisingly, I suppose) thought "damn, that's a really good point." Interesting. Raises some uncomfortable poll-tax type questions though.

One man one vote is a Warren Court construct that never should have been promulgated further than a cutting room floor.

As long as the people aren't let near important decisions like lifetime faculty appointments, it doesn't really matter.

What kills me is all of my crazy right wing FB friends who post Bill Cosby quotes that shame the black community so they can talk shit about blacks without coming off as a "racist white idiot."

They apparently forgot to do their homework, because Bill Cosby is also pro-Obama, anti-evangelical, and accepting of Muslims. He's also pretty hard Democrat. So they're quoting a guy who stands against everything they believe.

The irony. It feels good.

Why would this make you feel good?
