From a very smart (or at least, well-educated friend)

Anyway, it is mainly the smugness and flat-out refusal to consider the argument that makes hthis so bad.

blah blah blah blah blah

Why Affirmative Action Should Be Based on Class, Not Race

Kudos to the Supreme Court, which seems to be nudging the country's universities in the right direction.

S "There is now a solid black middle class; three in four black people are not poor."

Three in four black people do not live BELOW THE POVERTY LINE apparently that's the same as not poor

OP Losing the Race: Self-Sabotage in Black America is a 2000 book by American linguist and political commentator John McWhorter in which he argues that not external racial prejudice and discrimination, but elements of black culture are more responsible for the social problems faced by black Americans several decades after the Civil rights movement. Specifically, McWhorter points to anti-intellectualism, separatism, and a self-perpetuated identity of victimhood as factors limiting black Americans as a group.

M I hope he doesn't think that he is proposing some sort revolutionary idea here. Let alone one that has been tried again and again, and proven not to be nearly as effective at obtaining equal opportunity or diversity. I hope this guy doesn't write about this stuff for a living..

C I have a hard time stomaching McWhorter's argument. I actually have that book. And I've also read works that refute McWhorter's. Also, quoting those things from McWhorter does nothing to the author's argument except place more attention on the social/psychological problems Blacks face, especially those who are in poverty.

J Wait hahahahahaha he says no race based affirmative action because only 25% of black people are poor and the exact same chart from which he takes that number says that only 10% of white people are poor but I guess those numbers are the same so, civil rights and quality, good!

J Part of me likes to think that he didn't scroll down all the way to see the white line and had no idea it was there

Stupid political email from fat lesbian friend says something about 624 bills introduced in 2013 to regulate a woman's body but 0 for men since the dawn of time. Lesbian is pissed at me when I told her old laws against gay sex were clearly an attempt to regulate the male body.

Misleading title of the day: Two Hours After The Supreme Court Gutted The Voting Rights Act, Texas AG Suppresses Minority Voters

The article goes on to talk about how Texas will not be implementing the voter id law the federal government has prevented them from implementing.

Actually it says that Texas is implementing that law immediately, which is actually the case.

You're right. I had a typo, that not shouldn't be there. My point was that northern states are allowed to have voter id laws, but southern states can't because they're racist. That seems to be a clear violation of equal protection.

I don't think voter id laws are inherently racist. That is like saying drivers licenses are inherently racist.

Forwarded by a friend from CNN's feed:

Kevin Rudd has been sworn in as Australia’s prime minister after deposing the country’s first female leader, Julia Gillard. Was she ousted because of sexism? http://on.cnn.com/14yuTMO

Obviously if a female elected official is defeated, it is sexism. If Michelle Bachman had run for reelection and lost, would it have been sexism?

Liberal hatred is by definition legitimate as they hold the moral high ground.
