The supreme court has a "case or controversy" requirement to their jurisdiction. They won't hear the same case twice. But they can reconsider past decisions when the same kind of cases come up again. They don't like to do it, but they can.

Okay that makes a lot of sense.

meh, we've gotten too far into this.

I just object to the characterization of this as Republicans vs. uteri, e.g. the whole "hands off my uterus" framing. I am pro-choice, but I don't think pro-lifers are just a bunch of nitwits who want to control women's uteruses. I see the abortion issue as one of the rights of the mother vs. the rights of the fetus. I have a clear opinion on this, but it doesn't mean I'm blind or unsympathetic to those who see a fetus as a real life. So all these pictures of a uterus that say "hands off my uterus" ought at least to be honest enough to draw a fetus in there.

Anyways, this is the stupid political crap thread so I'm venting this in the wrong forum. Just got to me today, I guess.

Me too for some reason. Particularly all of the "OMG THEY DIDNT HAVE ONE WOMAN ON THE PANEL" posts. I mean the issue isn't over whether abortions will be allowed, it is over whether religious employers need to pay for abortions. I'm no expert, but I don't think that many of the religions for whom this is an issue have female leaders.

This thread reminds me of a trip in to the recesses of the Rouse-ian mind. Kind of frightening.

I've got no dog in this hunt, could care less about abortion, but why should they be honest enough to draw a fetus, show the other side, whatever? If you want to see a fetus look at one of those blackened dead ones on one of the signs the pro-lifers carry. I doubt the people screaming "baby killers!" are exactly showing both sides of the issue honestly, but we always seem to give one side of the isle the benefit of the doubt it seems.

It's not about honest debate, it's about bashing and demonizing the hell out of the other side, and I for one, find it entertaining the libs have finally caught on on how to do this effectively.

This issue and Santorum stepping into every pile of Ackbar the libs are leaving along the trail make for great TeeVee

FTR, I am about as pro-life as it gets. And if any woman dare challenge me, I remind them that it is uterUS not uterYOU.
