I think there is a very compelling argument for the necessity of social science, and I don't have a problem with a definition of science that includes the study of different types of human behavior. What I do find ridiculous, however, is the way so many of my social scientist friends believe exactly what Piob's referencing. There's a widespread belief that using statistics and trying to force social science into the scientific method will somehow make disciplines like poli sci as rigorous as what they call the "hard" sciences. That idea is wrongheaded, and it's destroying social science scholarship.
