JapanAlex01 - Do you realize you're coming off as unintelligent and completely lacking in any sense of self-awareness? I guess I answered my own question....but you should really review what you've posted here, the responses, and try to learn from it. Like noncomplacent people do.

Not when they advocate all of those things. It's things like this, that make me hate people...

You state that you posted on facebook, claiming that all religious people are homophobic, racist, and sexist.
You misspell disobedient on your way to ignoring the New Testament.
Then you complain about being accused of hate speech.
Your next sentence states that "weak fucks" endorse tolerance of other faiths.
You finish off by saying you hate people.

You've never read Ayn Rand, but feel qualified to call her a "malevolent, stupid fuck" because she wrote a novel you never read that advocates a philosophy that you disagree with.

So, at this point, you've ridiculed Christians & Jews, said someone who you've heard disagrees with you on the role of government is a "stupid malevolent fuck", and said that "weak fucks" endorse tolerance of other faiths. After implying in your first sentence that bigotry and intolerance are negative characteristics.

Why can religious people pick and choose what they believe, then turn around and say, 'it's in the Bible, so it's the law.'

That's what's dumb. And, you.

You call Matt dumb and chide others for picking and choosing what they believe in. This comes, again, after professing that intolerance and bigotry is bad, except when it's against Christians, Jews, people who disagree with you on the role of government, and people who endorse tolerance of other faiths

I never said 'consciousness raising.' Debating and discussion can be about finding the best way for yourself and society. Homophobia is not the best way for anybody. Anyway, I forgot you can't have educated topics in teh internetz.

You quibble over your word usage. You then advocate that debating and discussion is the best way for society. You follow this by saying that you can't discuss and debate on the internet.

I've read Ayn Rand and I think she is a malevolent, stupid fuck. having to read a sex scene written by her is a form of torture akin with water boarding.

Ayn Rand sex writing > 50 Shades of Grey sex writing.

Someone alert Tagut, we've found one of his Internet Atheists.

Also JapAlex misused "secular" when he meant "religious." Add that to the registry of his crimes, along with atrocious abuse of commas.

Fun Fact: Harvey sets aside a little "me" time every week, fixes himself some chamomile tea, climbs into his snuggy and gets in touch with his softer side by reading current female middle class softcore porn favorites. It makes him a better lawyer and a better person.

JohnGalt just likes that post because of the semi-defense of Rand.

If someone says that they hate gays because their bible says so, is it wrong to think less of them for that or should we be tolerant of such an opinion? Should we be tolerant of intolerance? If we are not and that someone then accuses you of intolerance for not being tolerant of their religious beliefs, is it wrong to think that they are moronic?

As an aside, I don't agree with the vast majority of what japanalex said and I certainly don't like the way he said it, but those people who say that people should be tolerant of other people's faiths generally mean their own faith in my experience and are generally not particularly tolerant of other faiths themselves.

I'm a heathen so your attempt to marginalize religious tolerance is not going to work on me.

What many people call "homophobia" really translates to, "People that do not have the EXACT same views on homosexuality, gay marriage, etc. that I do. Anyone that does not have my progressive views is by definition a homophobe." That is an insultingly simplistic view and as fascist a one as I can think of. Few people take the stance, "I hate gays," the term you used above (which is moving the goal posts from JA's post of homophobia, i.e. the fear of gays).

What is moronic (and fascist) is deciding you have the lock on what is right and true. Yes, people should be tolerant of intolerance. It just might be your position is not as perfect as you think and tolerance is a much better tool in changing someone's view than meeting them with intolerance of your own. I spoke of those condescending and annoying fucks that like to "consciousness raise." They only harden people in their position and make even people that agree with them want to smack them.

I have no desire to get into the middle of this and have no love for JA, but the term "homophobia" is commonly used for a range of negative attitudes towards homosexuality including "hatred." Ty wasn't really moving the goal post in this conversation.

As far as I'm concerned you can believe whatever you like. I'm not trying to marginalise religious tolerance. Just pointing out that frequently the people who ask for tolerance of their religious beliefs are quite intolerant themselves. Most of the time, that's why they are asking for tolerance. At least in my experience.

In fact, in the case of what JapanAlex was actually responding to was a girl who said that thinking that people of other faiths should be put to death was ok. Then claiming that he should be tolerant of other faiths.

Anyway, I think people should be tolerant of other people's beliefs, so long as those beliefs don't impinge on the rights of others. Do you really think it's fascist to think that someone who doesn't like gay marriage is an asshole?

By the way, "What is moronic (and fascist) is deciding that you have the lock on what is right and true. Yes, people should be tolerant of intolerance" - who is deciding that they have the lock on what is right and true here?

Your statement is self-contradictory. If you admit "homophobia" is used for a range of attitudes (I'll leave your loaded term of "negative" out) then you cannot accurately declare that "hatred" and "homophobia" are statement equivalents.

There's so much here to pick apart.

For instance your first sentence is either irrelevant or a straw man. Your second is incorrect as you were clearly trying to justify why you disagree with religious tolerance in your first statement, i.e. you just mean "your" religion. Then you admit your declaration was based on anecdotal evidence, (your experience).

Your next paragraph is unintelligible.

And so on. I also suspect you think your critique of my meta-statement is a good one so carry on.
