Well no one posts a picture with the bolded text "Look at these schmucks!" So you have to take what you can get, I suppose.

Gibonius: But then they tend to easily accept social conservativeness to gain economic liberties. Which is their choice.

That flyer might be reductive, but the quotations aren't terribly misleading: Ayn Rand really was an atheist, and Jesus made quite a few remarks against the wealthy and on behalf of the poor in the gospels. It's only a "false" dichotomy insofar as the Republican Party isn't strictly Objectivist or whatever nor is it strictly Christian. But the flyer does obviously get at a friction that does exist: a vision of society based on the free market and self-interest does not conform neatly with the social values of the gospels. Eighteenth-century British writers, for example, knew this well and fretted about it constantly. It's taken a lot of ideological/naturalizing work to reduce this friction, but it's still visible.

Dogma evolves. Never forget that.

A mostly tangential note - if you value the amount of money that John D. Rockefeller gave away in his lifetime ($550 million), if you calculate the present value of that, using the year of his death (1937) as the standard, Rockefeller gave away almost nine billion dollars.

His wealth at the time of his death amounted to about 1.3% of the total American GDP. Good lord.

My boss's son is dressing up as a Democrat for Halloween. He plans to "act entitled" to the candy. Love it.
