I really had to bite my tongue hard on this one:

"listening to Mitt Romney talk about implementing Gender Equality in the Middle East, when he doesn't even support it in the US is a total joke."

Even if you accept the "women make 75% of what men do for the same work" thing, equating it with the atrocities suffered by women in the ME is facepalm.gif

My non-posted response:

"Dear Western women, you know absolutely nothing about inequality. -Middle Eastern women. Oh wait, we can't write."

Equality in America, my ass. This country is setup so that any group of people who has ever experienced any social adversity have a smooth ride down East St. I'm a minority and even I don't think that's fair.

^ I LOVE THIS - have been trying to explain it to some conservative friends for a while.

In other news, someone on Bill Maher this week finally eloquently pointed out where all this crazy rape stuff is coming from - the GOP position on abortion relies on the fetus being a person who deserves the right to life. If this is true, it should not matter if the life was conceived during a rape or incest - it's still a person. You would not make that distinction after the birth - therefore if you are saying the fetus deserves the same rights as the person, you can't make that distinction before it's born. That just points out how screwy the whole argument is to begin with.

That's the first time you've ever heard someone break down that argument? I think it was Chrysta Freeland. I always enjoy her as a guest.

You can watch Bill Maher without puking or punching the TV? confused.gif

The fetus = person argument goes back to Aristotelian telos and the medieval concept of homunculus, no?

No - not the first time... just said it the most plainly - as in it took me 75 words to explain and she said it very clearly with like 10. Also - it has typically been something neither side has anything to gain by pointing it out - it's just plain uncomfortable no matter which side of the argument you support.

I don't do politics, but DAMN...that's probably the most logical criticism I've seen of republicans.

On the other side of the coin, there is the procedure itself . . .

Mark 10:27 is pretty important in the context of that Bible quote. But who needs context when you have a fukking meme generator.

Edit: Not to mention the fact that atheism and republican-partyism are certainly not mutually exclusive, let alone judaism and republican-partyism, islam, hindu, etc...

Edit #2: Ugh. This is why I don't post much. This is seriously the most logical criticism you've seen of republicans? Really? Seriously? Do you know what logical means? How about criticism?

That says more about you than the weakness of logical criticisms of many Republicans.

Two out of context quotes presented as a false dichotomy? That's the best criticism of the GOP you can find?
