That said, I'm pretty sure the 45% atheist population is a bogus stat.

Yes, hard to believe that 55% are idiots.

For instance, most people get their drug, eye, and dental insurance through employer based insurance or pay out of pocket. The statement is just factually inaccurate no matter how you slice it.

I'm pretty sure the liberals "liking" that gif would also be aghast at tax payer money funding a religious school system...which happens in Canada. The point I'm making is liberals are always making themselves out to be more cosmopolitan and smarter than the conservatives they mock...when in reality, they are often as uneducated about other countries as they people they're mocking and get their facts rather mixed up.

I was not going to bother with the 45% stat as that's no doubt bogus but you could probably get there if you included agnostics and only polled major urban areas.

Untrue. The law states, I believe, abortions in 30 minutes, or your money back.

I was curious enough to check Wikipedia. Numbers are, of course, disputed but the estimated range for no. of atheists in Canuckistan ranges from 16-30%.

The 16% to 30% figure in the wiki is from what they call an "older poll" seems to be from a 2007 study by Phil Zuckerman at Pitzer College, but the cite is unclear and the link not available anymore. Hardly indicative of the gist of the wiki.

The more recent data is unclear, the Ipsos Reid poll quoted puts it at 30%, but it also says that 53% believe in god, and 33% of respondents who identified themselves as Catholics, 28% Protestants and 23% of those of those who attend weekly religious services do not believe in god. Doesn't add up. It's impossible to figure out the rate of non believers without knowing the actual questions asked. Even then it probably wouldn't be clear because it doesn't sound like a particularly well developed poll. The Canadian census data is also less than useful.

It seems likely however that 30% is a minimum figure.

No Anderson Cooper stuff yet?

No, although I did comment on a gay friend's link about it:

"When Shep Smith comes out maybe they can, um, anchor the evening news, if you know what I'm saying."

What did Cooper do to warrant FB memes? Come out of the closet (again)?
