Not on Facebook, but a quote from the VA Attorney General:
"This is a terrible day for our country, the Constitution, and the rule of law in general."

Hyperbole much?

Why is this bad for the Constitution?
Apparently "Bad for my particular ideological stance on the Constitution" = "Bad for the Constitution."

More curious about the "rule of law" part. Duly passed by the legislature and confirmed by the high court. Where exactly is the rule of law issue?

Ken Cucinelli is a politically oriented jackass in general, so I'm not exactly expecting a lot out of him.

Maybe he was talking about the UVA president's reinstatement?

I received one of those group emails and the sender told us it was from FB. He thought this picture really "told those right wing nuts what the facts are." I hit reply all and said it was a crying shame the fact is Canada does not have socialized medicine. Apparently he is upset with me. laugh.gif

It's government funded, no? That's basically "socialized medicine", at least in the definition used in US politics.

Was a joke, riffing on the fact that the Governor of VA threatened to fire the board of visitors on Wednesday if they did not reconsider the President's ouster.

I guess that would have been against the rule of law.

Well if you're going to talk about another country...maybe one should use the definition the rest of the world does. Also, it is incorrect to say "healthcare" is government funded in Canada. For instance, most people get their drug, eye, and dental insurance through employer based insurance or pay out of pocket. The statement is just factually inaccurate no matter how you slice it.

It also has a better business atmosphere according to several studies and has a lower top marginal tax rate. =/

I would be interested in links to those studies.

As to tax...top federal rate is 29% and kicks in at only 132. Add that to the provincial rates, which are quite high relative to the US, and I would say the tax burden is higher for most folks. Ontario is 11% at only 78k, you're a combined federal/provincial of 40% at only 132k. BC is 15% at 102k, so at 132k you are paying 44%. Quebec is an incredible 24% at 80k, so at 132k you're paying a combined income tax of 53%!

In fairness the Economic Competitiveness Institute has the US ahead of Canada.

Although the US is trending downward, and Canada is trending upward.

Does the rest of the world have a definition for "socialized medicine"? It's basically a propaganda term used in US politics. And if ACA is a "government takeover of health care" and "socialized medicine", then Canada's healthcare is something well beyond that. That's the point being made.

That said, I'm pretty sure the 45% atheist population is a bogus stat.

Not to mention that abortion has no time limit in America, either.
