Shaved Head - Dry Skin

I shave my head down to a couple of millimeters in length and use T-gel consistently to prevent dandruff but I still find that I have a very dry scalp. I tried a simple skin lotion but it makes the little bit of hair I do have oily at the same time.

Do any of you short-haired or bald () guys know of any product that is a good hair/scalp moisturizer to prevent this? Is there even such a thing? Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks!

hey, maybe you aren't hydrated properly? (that is all the help i can offer, sadly)

One thing that may help is to use some scrubbing stuff, a/k/a exfoliant, each time when you shower after you shave. This will remove the dead skin that had been kept in place by your hair. It's been part of my head shaving ritual for many years. If dry scalp persists, consult your dermatologist, etc.

I do drink tons of water.....so I don't know if that could be the issue.

+1 Not to be underestimated, the hydration thing.

Also good. I have nothing constructive to add.

Tea Tree (in shampoo or conditioner) is usually good for dry scalp / skin. Maybe also try a leave in conditioner.

I have been using one of my wife's leave in conditioners, and whilst is leaves my hair with a nice silky sheen, it doesn't seem to do much for my head.

I used to get baldies, I used coconut oil, it worked very well. While you head is still wet, just rub it in.

As someone who shaves his head, but had a hard time with most lotions leaving a unattractive greasiness, I stayed away from lotions. That was until I was recommended a product by Nuetrogena. I use this product everyday and I like it very much. Besides being a lotion it is a sunblock (spf 45). I put it on my head and face after shaving in the morning. Give it a try.

Got it. Second link is for a possible product? I never tried it but saw it and thought it may be something that might work.

Thanks dudes. I will swing by my local drug store and rub all of these products in my hair to see which works best....

Another long-time head-shaver here.

I've been using Nivea Sensitive Extrasoothing Balm for years now.

It's very inexpensive, no alcohol, none-tacky, it doesn't feel like it's your clogging your pores and you don't need a lot of it. No overpowering scent, either (I find some nivea stuff smells a bit soapy)

And it feels really good rubbing it in right after shaving (I know how that might sound ...)

I've tried other stuff, including Biotherme Homme & Vichy Homme, but none of them come close when it comes to my scalp (though I do use Biotherme Homme on my face).

head & shoulders shampoo.

Don't use tea tree oil. There is too much evidence that it can have an estrogen-like effect on the body.

Are you talking about applying the essential oil directly on the scalp or when the tea tree is in shampoos (aveda, paul mitchell, and such). I can't imagine the small amount in shampoos would have much of an effect on someone's estrogen?
