Dealing with Color Loss

I've had color loss on a few of my shirts lately, mainly on the collars. I don't really have money for high end clothing at the moment, so is this most likely from them just being cheaper shirts?

You should tell us what kind of shirts they are, how long you've had them, and how you launder them.

sorry for not being more specific. i just have some really cheap pierre cardin shirts from TJ maxx. they're 55% cotton, 65% polyester. however, this also happened on a calvin klein button up that's 100% cotton. we have an older washing machine, just used a normal amount of detergent and put it on permanent press. i hope that's enough info. i'm new to all of this

i don't have any pics at the moment... the calvin klein shirt is originally an offwhite with subtle stripes, there's now pink around the collar. the other is a pierre cardin tan color and the color is fading. both happened after only 1 wash. i'm trying to figure out if it's the quality of the shirt or washing technique so i can avoid either in the future.

Happens to me regularly with some cheap brands, Banana Republic and Calvin Klein.  After a few months or so the collar looks like someone bleached it.  Have not had the problem with other brands.

Jesse - I'm not sure it's necessarily a function of the the shirt cost as I've had this happen with both expensive and inexpensive shirts. It seems more prevalent with darker colors such as a dark blue. I think darker colors just fade over time with regular laundering, but perhaps someone might have an alternate perspective/suggestion.

Are you self-laundering on cold with woolite? If not, you should be.

this has actually happened on lighter colors which is odd. i mean the one was an offwhite turning to a pink color.
