Brand new light brown or worn black shoes for an interview?

Thread Starter

Hello,

I am after a bit of advice. Have an interview coming up with. I am going to be wearing a grey suit. Only have two pairs of suitable shoes, one pair are light brown and the other pair are black.

The black ones have been worn daily for a long period of time so are slightly scuffed on the toes. The light brown ones are brand new.

Is wearing light brown shoes a big no for an interview? Do you think it will give a better impression than slightly scuffed and worn black ones?

Polish the black ones and wear them, don't overthink.

This. A slight scuff on the toes will disappear if you bother to polish them. And if you can't be bothered to polish your shoes then you don't deserve the job.

^ what they said.

Black shoes should be more appropriate, polish them.

I wouldn't wear the light brown shoes, not because of the color, but because they are new. I've found that wearing new items to important events is not good because of unexpected nuances with the items (e.g., shoes may hurt or you later realize they look better with another suit, etc.) or you haven't become comfortable wearing the new item.

I also feel that black is a better choice of color.

Post pictures of the shoes. If the black are square-toed, rubber soled slip-ons then brown.
