Roadtrip ideas - Seattle to LA in May

Hey all,

We've (me, gf, sister, sisters bf) just booked flights to Seattle in May and plan on taking 2 weeks to drive from Seattle through Napa, down the coast of California to fly out of LA.

Was wondering if you had any recs of things we need to see or places we should stay. We have no interest in 'touristy' stuff, just want to get a good feel of the west coast as we're from Philadelphia and NYC respectively.

Thanks in advance!
Pat

Hit up Cannon Beach in Oregon on your way down and drive the coast down into CA.

When you get to Portland area, think about a stay at McMenamin's Edgefield (its like 20-30 miles out of town). Its right by the entrance of the Colombia River Gorge (multnomah falls is right there). Pretty serene area and its unique. I'd check out the Multnomah Falls, maybe hike up to the top if you have a hankering. Maybe Vista Point, but its kind of overrated.

If you stay in Portland, I like the Hotel Monaco. Very convenient in downtown and very comfortable. There's not THAT much downtown, you could see most of Portland in a day. The big draw is the people and the food. Just check out Powell's books, some of the food pods, grab a stumptown coffee, the japanese garden, hit the waterfront, maybe Saturday Market if its there and find a good restaurant or two.

The Nines hotel is ok, but its just an upscale Starwood property... it is a bit modern but its right over Pioneer Courthouse square. Interesting building and great rooftop bar.
