Foo goes skiing. Sartorial disaster?

So, I'm going to Vail this weekend. Skiing for the first time since childhood--not good then, don't expect to be good now. Had to buy new clothes. Have no idea what I'm doing. Too coordinated? Concerned I will look too much like one of the X-Men, but the yellow gloves were too good to be true.

yellow gloves are a bit much. Would probably look better snowboarding.

The sweet spot for a skiing fit is to look as obnoxious as possible without looking foolish. I wear a black and white gingham jacket, black pants, white gloves and goggles and a black helmet.

Just wear your DB suits, like Luca R.

How far off am I from achieving that goal? This is as obnoxious as I get.

I think Rubinacci should be consulted on this question.....

Everyone looks ridiculous in ski clothes. Only exception: hot chicks with great asses in stretch pants.

I highly recommend Triple Aught Design Gear for Softshells and other tech clothing which isn't schemed up like a Japanese motorcycle.

Also, look at Ibex, Icebreaker and Woolpower for mid layers.

Not by a wide margin

Looks fine to me. I would look into getting a helmet though. Vail is a serious mountain. I've been doing it my whole life but I'm pretty sure I'd be dead or a vegetable if I didn't wear a helmet.

Thanks for the recommendations, but too late.

I bought the stuff pictured: Marmot Vertical soft shell jacket, Obermeyer Saranac pants and Stoic gloves. I picked the jacket simply on the basis that I thought it looked cool and the pants because they come in the size I need. The gloves pick up the yellow in the jacket. Underneath, I'll just wear an OCBD and sweater on top and long underwear on bottom.

Don't they have bunny slopes?

You know, I skied almost every (winter) weekend from about age 7 until I went to college, and then several times a year after that. I never, ever wore a helmet, took a lot of nasty falls, and I never got hurt in the slightest. Looking back, I realize I was lucky. But nobody really thought about injury at all in those days and absolutely no one wore a helmet.

Foo, stay off the black diamond runs and you should be OK.

wearing an OCBD skiing is :roflmao:

I'm sure they do but you should still wear a helmet, even if you are the best in the world, all it takes is someone behind you to come flying into you. Seen it many times. Plus they keep your head warm and some have built in bluetooth speakers.

Load up http://phresheez.com/site/index.php on your smartphone so we can track your runs and make sure you don't die smile.gif
